The Role of the Department in Serving the Community

The Department of Chemistry works to participate, guide and supervise the provision of scientific services that contribute to the development of society and the university, and help transform society into a knowledge society. For example, it provides field programs concerned with the dissemination of chemical awareness in various issues of use to the community, including parents, children, farmers, professionals and employees. The faculty members participated in the work of the various committees at the college and university levels. They have contributed to various community activities, visits and training courses organized by the college for schools, research institutes and various institutions in the country.

The most important of these works are:

  • Participation in the Arab Week of Chemistry under the slogan "You Are All Chemistry 2."
  • Participating in refereeing research papers presented by the middle and high school students and participating in the Globe International Program "International Virtual Science Symposium."
  • Participating in the first "Medical Research Makkah Hackathon" by presenting an innovative idea that serves the medical field to be a product that achieves the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in the field of sustainable economic environment. The team won first place and was nominated to receive support for research from the Deanship of Scientific Research and from a business incubator under the supervision of Wadi Makkah Technology.
  • Participating in the “Rawaa and Attaa” event, which was concerned with receiving a delegation of students and supervisors of the Kafel Foundation for Orphans Care. The delegation was introduced to the nature of the safety requirements needed in a chemistry lab. Also simple chemistry corners were organized to explain simple chemical experiments related to our daily life.
  • Participation in the Second Saudi Conference on Clinical Toxins.
  • Conducting educational awareness lectures in the environmental field in various places in the Kingdom, including different schools in Makkah, the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Retirees. The lectures were delivered by the environmental expert His Excellency Dr. Fahd Turkistani.
  • Organizing visits for the students of the Chemistry Department to the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Zamzam Project, the General Department of Criminal Evidence, and Makkah Water Company (Safa).
  • Participating in a workshop entitled "Addressing the Environmental Impact of Charitable Work" in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Makkah, in cooperation with the Municipal Council of the Secretariat of the Holy Capital.
  • Participating in the “Waste-Free College” event to launch the Environmental Enrichment Week.
  • Receiving school visits of gifted and talented students.
  • Participation in Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
  • Participation in the National Olympiad for Scientific Innovation: "Ibdaa"
  • Participation in coordinating the "Development of Guidance and Orientation Skills Program" directed to the female guides of the Two Holy Mosques.
  • Participation in organizing the "Youth Creativity and Entrepreneurship" event.
  • Attending the "Development Deans at the Saudi Universities Forum."
  • Supervising the measurement tests of the National Center for Measurement and Evaluation in Makkah.
  • Participation, for the third time in a row, in the training part of the "Chemistry in the Community" course that is part of the "Talent Enrichment Summer Program."
  • Participation in the training part of the extra-curricular activities under the Summer Enrichment Program (Mawhiba).
  • Participating in research projects to develop and improve the "Kiswah (Cover) of Kaaba Program" at the Kiswah Factory.
  • Participating in providing laboratory experiments on the "Day of Hosting the High School Female Students of Bahra."
  • Participating in organizing the "College Horizons and Visions Towards 2030" event, in which the College of Applied Sciences won first place.
  • Delivering a lecture entitled "Security and Safety in Laboratories" to the female high school students of Bahra.
  • Participating in the "Our Life Is Chemistry" event, while the department hosted the students of the Charity Association for Orphans, "Dar Al-Zuhur."
  • Participation in organizing "The Nutrition and Beauty Corner" event and doing some chemical experiments for the female students of the Charity Foundation.
  • Contributing to the lecture: "Who Am I? and What Do I Want?" for the students of the "Charity Foundation for Orphans Care."
  • Introducing the idea of an environmental clinic.
  • Issuing the Environmental Clinic magazine.
  • Doing radio and television interviews on environmental pollution.
  • Participating in the Hajj Research Forum.
  • Participating in the Human Resources Development Fund.
  • Participating in the referring committees of the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity "Innovation Path" held in the Western Region.
  • Participating in organizing the Fourth Scientific Conference for the Male and Female Students of the Kingdom.
  • Representation in the evaluation committee that looked into a number of stages of the Business Accelerator Program in Makkah.
