Dr. Al-Qurashi and Prof. Hermas Lecture on the Importance of Employing Technology in Scientific Research

Activities of the Cultural Committee at the Department of Geography have been launched with the first scientific seminar in the second semester of the academic 1442 A.H. on Tuesday, 25 Rajab 1442 A.H. The seminar started with a welcome speech by the Head of the Cultural Committee in the department, Prof. Ahmad Al-Shareiy, in the presence of the Head of the Department of Geography, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al-Qurashi, and all the honorable attendees, including the academic staff members and researchers.

Afterwards, the lecturers, His Excellency Prof. Al-Sayyid Hermas and His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al-Qurashi, presented a scientific paper entitled: “Plant Changes in Southwestern Saudi Arabia: An Analytical Study of Time Series Using the Google Earth Engine”. During the presentation, the lecturers introduced the subject of the study and the technical program used in the research, as well as its importance and the desired scientific benefit from it. The presentation also included a review of the mechanism and methodology of the program, how to employ the technology used in studying the various geographical topics, a presentation of the study themes, and the scientific results of the research.

This was followed by opinions, inquiries and scientific recommendations, which greatly influenced the scientific seminar, being posed by the academic staff of the Department of Geography at Umm Al-Qura University as well as the academic staff from various departments of geography at the local and international universities. The lecturers answered all the inquiries posed and responded to all the suggestions.

Finally, the Head of the Department of Geography, Dr. Abdullah Al-Qurashi, called on all researchers among the academic staff members and postgraduate students to contribute to enriching scientific research in cooperation with the two researchers, in order to upgrade the quality of work and enrich knowledge.
