The Saudi Society of Clinical Pharmacy appointed the Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy for Hospital Affairs at Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Abdullah Al-Haifani, as the first Chairman of the Primary Care Treatment Group which is affiliated to the society. Dr. Al-Haifani was elected for this position as he is specialized in clinical pharmacy and has professional experience in establishing pharmaceutical consultation clinics. He has also conducted scientific research in the field of primary care.
Dr. Al-Haifani clarified that the Primary Care Treatment Group aims to sign new agreements and create mechanisms that contribute to developing the pharmacists work system and qualifying them in the field of primary care treatment and pharmaceutical consultation clinics. Moreover, the Primary Care Treatment Group aims to train the national pharmacists working in this field to be a reliable source of pharmaceutical information within the medical teams, helping them set an appropriate medical plan for the patients. The national pharmacists can also follow up patients who suffer from chronic diseases, with the aim of limiting the waste of drugs, raising the efficiency of the use of medicines, and improving the health condition of the patients.
The Saudi Society of Clinical Pharmacy creates such specialized groups in order to promote its role in providing clinical pharmaceutical care service to patients, and to implement its strategic plan to develop the field of clinical pharmacy. This can be performed by concluding memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with many government bodies, supporting and publishing research papers, and holding research competitions for those who work in the field of clinical pharmacy. Moreover, these specialized groups supervise relevant exhibitions, conferences, and scientific meetings.
It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Society of Clinical Pharmacy signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health, represented by the General Administration of Pharmaceutical Care, in order to promote mutual cooperation between them and develop the professional practice in the different fields of pharmacy. The aim of this is to raise the level of professional practice to comply with international standards, and implement mutual programs between the two sides.
