His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah Bafail, launched the electronic version of issue no. 144 of Manar Al-Jami`ah Magazine, which covers Umm Al-Qura University's efforts in facing the Coronvirus epidemic. His Excellency also launched the first website of the magazine after more than 38 years of work in the field of media.
The UQU President stressed the importance of the digital transformation of the magazine in order to document the work carried out and initiatives launched remotely by the university's different entities, especially in light of facing the repercussions of the Coronavirus (CONVID-19) pandemic. His Excellency also appreciated the role of the students in following up the achievements accomplished on an ongoing basis and highlighting such achievements to the university community every three months.
It is noteworthy that Manar Al-Jami`ah, which was established in 1403 A.H., is the first magazine issued by the Department of Media with the aim of training the department's students in the field of media. The magazine has been headed by a number of academic staff members with experience in the field of media, the first of whom was Dr. Ahmad Ghalwash. Its current editor-in-chief is Dr. Salim Uraijah. A large number of key figures of Umm Al-Qura University in various disciplines and colleges have participated in preparing and writing in its different issues.
Manar Al-Jami`ah Magazine returns today to its audience in a whole new look that matches the great developments in the media industry. More than 30 students currently participate in its editorial team, gathering and editing news, making news coverage, and photographing events under the follow-up of the academic staff members in the Media Department and seven consultants specialized in journalism.
The magazine has cooperated with the College of Designs in making the design templates and graphics in order for the college's female students to carry out the tasks related to artwork production and layout. This is in integrative cooperation between the department and other colleges whose scientific field is compatible with the interests and work of the magazine.
The launching of the website of the magazine was attended by the UQU Vice President, Dr. Farid Al-Ghamdi, the UQU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul-Wahhab Al-Resini, and the Supervisor of the UQU Vice Presidency for Educational Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Babalghaith.
