On the occasion of the Arabic Week for Chemistry and under the noble patronage of her Excellency the Vice President of the University for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, the Department of Chemistry at the College of Applied Sciences held the event "You Are All Chemistry (3)". This event is held for the third year and this year it was attended by her Excellency the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences, Dr. Raja bint Tahir Ma`tuq, the Vice Dean of Scientific Research for Research Volunteering and Voluntary Research, Dr. Sumayah bint Ezzat Sharaf, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Direction, Guidance and Community Partnership, Dr. Amal bint Omar Khairo, her accompanying delegate from the Deanship of Student Affairs, and visitors from the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Region. The event was also attended by secondary school female students who were part of the high school students visit program to the colleges of Umm Al-Qura University that was organized by the unit of community partnership at the Deanship of Student Affairs. This event was held on Wednesday, 2 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1441 A.H., at the internal courtyard of Buildings B and G and the Chemistry Department laboratories. The delegate was received by a number of the academic staff members at the Department of Chemistry.
The event aims to educate students and the Arabic audience about the vitality of chemistry and that it is not merely a science taught in classrooms and laboratories of schools and universities, but is one of the pillars of life around us and plays an important role in our nutrition and the surrounding environment. Thus, the corners of the exhibition incarnated the role of chemistry in industry, beautification, medicine, nutrition, and forensic medicine. The event was attended by a group of deputy heads of departments, female academic staff members, and female students at the university.
The event included some educational corners prepared by female students from the Department of Chemistry under the supervision of the female academic staff members at the department, which incorporates the role of chemistry in different fields, including casting light on the importance of breast cancer awareness for males, as males have tissues similar to that of females. Moreover, with increase in age, the chances of contracting the disease increase.
‘You Are All Chemistry (3)’ was concluded by printing fingerprints of the visitors of the activity (female students, female affiliates and academic staff members at Umm Al-Qura University, representatives of the General Directorate of Education in the Makkah Region, and the secondary school female student delegates).
