Under the directions of His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, President of Umm Al-Qura University, and the supervision of Her Excellency Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, the UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs, a meeting entitled "Scientific Research and Innovation" was organized for talented female students at the General Directorate of Education in Makkah, in cooperation with the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the university.
The Deanship of Scientific Research, represented by the Engineering Science and Architecture Research Center, the Applied Sciences Research Center, and the Islamic Education Research Center, presented a program to host talented students on Wednesday, 24 Jumada Al-Awwal, 1440 A.H. The program was attended by 60 students accompanied by Ms. Amal Al-Muhammadi, Her Excellency Dr. Layla Al-Sa`idi, the program supervisor, and a number of academic staff from the university.
The meeting began with a recitation of the Noble Qur'an, followed by an introductory statement about the Deanship of Scientific Research presented by Dr. Hanadi Bihiri, Vice Dean of Scientific Research for Quality, Development, and Academic Accreditation, and a welcome speech by Her Excellency Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, the UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs.
The program included a number of activities, including: mental motivation for gifted students, presented by Her Excellency Dr. Zakiyyah Al-Maliki, Deputy Director of the Islamic Education Research Center; research trends in the field of computers according to Saudi Vision 2030, presented by Dr. Tahani Al-Sabit; and a workshop entitled "Problem-Solving Using Computers," presented by Dr. Dunya Badawud, Deputy Director of the Engineering Science and Architecture Research Center.
The students were also introduced to the importance of mathematics in our lives through a presentation by Her Excellency Dr. Fa'izah Al-Lihyani. The gifted students were also introduced to the concept of nanoscience by Dr. Aminah Al-Ahmadi, and to the security and safety rules to be followed in the research labs by Her Excellency Dr. Ma`tuqah Abu Al-Naja, Deputy Director of the Applied Sciences Research Center.
The program concluded with a visit to the research labs in the Department of Chemistry, where some practical experiments were carried out with the students under the supervision of Her Excellency Dr. Aliaa Alfi and Ms. Rajaa Nuqali.
