The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for the Haj and Umrah Institute at the Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Environemntal and Health Research Department,  studies how the sacrifice waste can be exploited. This goes according to a scientific study conducted to the Kingdom’s slaughterhouses, aiming at benefiting from the sacrifices in the Holy Sites (Alma’aism and Alshara’aa’a). Prof. Ibrahim Hussein a researcher at the Department conducts the study. The Head of the Department, Dr. Turki Mohammed Habiballah said “the study currently conducted at the Department’s Sacrifice Unit focuses on three pivots; the most important of which is applying the performance indicators at the Kingdom’s slaughterhouses to benefit from the sacrifices waste. The last Haj season’s study concluded with setting the performance indicators and standards which have been applied during this Haj season to assess the work flow at the four alternative slaughterhouses. The alternative slaughterhouse (c) is a case in point.

Dr. Turki went on to add that the study team assesses the trial to exploit any of the solid waste fit for human consumption (liver) at the alternative slaughterhouse (B) to reduce the huge sacrifice waste. He went on to point out that the study targets the handling of the slaughterhouses’ waste during this year’s Haj season 1437. It also aims at finding solutions based upon scientific bases to exploit the solid waste, fit or unfit for human consumption. The study also works on creating ways for safe dumping of the slaughterhouses’ liquid waste to preserve Makkah’s environment from pollution.
