Abstract
During the seventh century AH/thirteenth century AD, there was significant competition and in-tense conflict between the Ayyubids and the Banu Rasul for control over the Holy City. Addition-ally, there was another struggle among the nobility of Makkah for the emirate's seat. This study sheds light on these events through the examination of an extremely rare copper coin known as the Sharif Jammaz bin Hassan bin Qatada, the Amir of Makkah. This coin was minted during his emirate from Shawwal to Dhul-Hijjah in the year 651 AH/1253 AD. It is preserved in the collec-tion of Mr. Mohsen bin Mohsen in the city of Taif, Saudi Arabia. This coin serves as the only physical evidence of coins minted by Prince Jammaz in Makkah, and its importance lies in the written inscriptions it bears and the political implications, confirming events documented in histor-ical sources that unfolded in Makkah during that year. Furthermore, this coin has not been previ-ously published or studied, and it will be the subject of a descriptive analytical study for the first time, shedding light on the historical events that took place in Mecca during that period.
