Detailed Budget Items:
The detailed budget of the project is divided into four items, as explained in the form (Lead researcher budget, researcher budget/promising) in which some items of the Unified Bylaw of Scientific Research in the Saudi universities are outlined. The items are:
- Salaries: this item includes salaries of the research team; lead researcher, associate researchers, consultant and other collaborates (ex. Lab technician, programmer, clerk). The salaries expended under this item are listed in the Unified Bylaw of Scientific Research in the Saudi Universities. This item should not exceed 40% of the total cost of the project for scientific, engineering, computer and medical specialties, this excludes theoretical research and the specialties that don’t require equipments or lab instruments; as the ceiling of this item for these projects may reach up to 75% of the total cost of the project. However, the justification of such increase should be explained in a separate item titled ‘reasons for exceeding the salaries item ceiling’ in the research approach file.
- Requirements Item (equipments and instruments): This item includes costs of the equipments and instruments needed for the research project to carry out the needed experiments and measurements (ex. Laptops, application server, measurement tools, analyses, programs licenses). The cost of this item may reach up to 100% of the total project cost (total budget).
- Trips: This item includes costs of the trips that are for attending conferences or courses. This item covers tickets and registration fees in conferences and courses. This item should not exceed 15% of the total project cost.
- Other costs: This item includes costs related to scientific publication in journals, writing assistance and scientific editing. The cost of this item shouldn’t exceed 10% of the total project cost.
