Ms. Dalal Alsharif, lecturer of English literature in the English Department, presented a paper on Saturday March 13, 2021, entitled “Holden Caulfield and Borderline Personality Disorder” in the
International Conference on Medical Humanities which was held by Londen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom (13-14 March).
The paper investigates the psychological state of Holden Caulfield, the narrator of J. D. Salinger’s (1919-2010) coming-of-age novel The Catcher in the Rye (1951). The paper finds that Holden suffers from borderline personality disorder, a condition recognized by emotional irregularity for an extended period of time.
