The University Medical Center, at its headquarters in Al-Aziziyyah today, organized an awareness event on the occasion of World AIDS Day under the slogan, "Have a Check-up and a Consultation, and Feel Reassured" in cooperation with the Directorate of Health Affairs in the Makkah Region.
The Director General of the University Medical Center, Dr. Yaser Bahakim, said that the event comes in cooperation between the Center's Public Health Unit and the Directorate of Health Affairs in the Makkah Region, represented by the Department of Communicable Disease Control. The event targets all the visitors of the University Medical Center to raise health awareness about the human immunodeficiency virus (AIDS), to prevent it and raise awareness of the importance of conducting a quick examination in voluntary examination centers, explaining the difference between it and the confirmatory examination, in addition to stressing the need to check pregnant women for AIDS.
In turn, the Assistant Director General of Public Health, Dr. Khadijah Al-Juhari, stated that this year's event includes a corner dedicated to conducting voluntary testing for HIV infection, an informative corner to introduce the disease using illustrative boards and educational videos displayed on the visual screens at the University Medical Center facilities, and the distribution of some gifts for the event to the visitors.
