The Smoking and Narcotics Control Committee at Umm Al-Qura University launched the "Your Health Is a Responsibility" initiative to contribute to stopping the habit of smoking. The initiative also aims to spread health awareness about the dangers and harm of smoking to all groups of society.

His Excellency UQU President, Prof. Abdullah Bafail, declared his support for this initiative, which aims to urge smokers to quit smoking and educate non-smokers about the great risks of smoking to human health as well as the environment. Moreover, he explained that the initiative contributes to activating the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques which call for Makkah to be smoke-free. The initiative is also in line with the development vision of the Makkah region, which focuses on two themes: human development and land construction.
