Umm Al-Qura University today celebrated the closing of the Arabic Calligraphy Contest organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs for the Saudi university students. His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Abdullah Bafail, honored the contest award winners during the ceremony which was held in the presence of the UQU Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, Dr. Ahmad Babalghaith, and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Omar Sunbul.
Dr. Omar Sunbul said, "The contest aimed at reviving the beauty of Arabic calligraphy and at searching for talented university students, to enrich the aesthetic content of Arabic calligraphy." He added that an agreement had been made with the Saudi Scientific Association for Arabic Calligraphy to organize future Arabic calligraphy courses for university students, in order to make them well versed in its rules and art.
Al-Haram Al-Sharif College won the first place in the "Al-Raq`ah Script" and "Al-Naskh Script" contests, while the College of the Prophet’s Mosque won the first place in the “Diwani Script” contest. As for the "Jali Diwani Script" contest, the first place was won by the Islamic University.
