Within the framework of the joint cooperation between Umm Al-Qura University and the General Directorate of Health Affairs in the Holy Capital, the University Medical Center today launched a mobile clinic for voluntary counseling and testing for AIDS. This is in order to educate the university staff on this disease, and provide medical examinations for those who want them. The campaign program will be implemented over ten weeks in a number of university departments and headquarters, at a rate of one visit per week.

The Director General of the University Medical Center, Dr. Yassir Bahakim, explained that the program includes launching a mobile vehicle that will move between a number of different colleges and branches of the university, in both the male and female sections. The mobile clinic will start its activities on Tuesday of each week, and will conduct a series of awareness tours for ten weeks. It will also provide voluntary services of quick blood testing for those who want to take the test and know the result instantly.

On his part, the UQU Vice President, Dr. Farid Al-Ghamdi, stressed the importance of continuous cooperation between the University Medical Center and the Directorate of Health Affairs in various fields, as well as in therapeutic, preventive, and educational aspects. Finally, he emphasized the role played by educative campaigns in raising the rates of health awareness about infectious and common diseases among the university community in particular, and the Makkan community in general.
