300 Experts and Academics Discuss ‘the History and Civilization of Makkah Throughout the Ages’ at Umm Al-Qura University

More than 300 experts and academics will meet at the Nineteenth Scientific Forum, which will be held by Umm Al-Qura University on 27 and 28 Jumada Al-Awwal, in cooperation with the Saudi Historical Society and under the slogan, "History and Civilization of Makkah Al-Mukarramah Throughout the Ages". The scientific forum will be presented on 27 and 28 Jumada Al-Awwal at King Abdul-Aziz Historical Hall in Al-Abdiyyah, under the patronage of His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, and the participation of researchers and leaders from various Saudi universities.

The Chairperson of the Saudi Historical Society and supervisor of its publications, Prof. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Zaidan, emphasized the importance of the forum in providing those interested in the history of the Arab world with decent high-quality research which will be discussed by specialists at the forum, peer-reviewed, and then printed out in two huge volumes. He noted the role of translation in the service of researchers to help them reach global levels, especially since international information databases rely on research abstracts in displaying scientific and academic publications for researchers.

The supervisor of the society's branch at the university and Secretary-General of the Forum, Dr. Fahd Al-Malki, stated that the forum, in its nineteenth season, aims to implement the methodology of historical writings and reinforce the academic bonds between those interested in historical and civilizational studies. The forum will witness the participation of more than 300 academic members, exchanging scientific experiences and putting forward their proposals as part of research studies and working papers. Dr. Fahd also stressed that the participation rate in the current season is 20% higher than the previous ones.

The forum includes (6) scientific sessions, which will discuss (39) papers on the history of Makkah Al-Mukarramah before Islam and the common types of entertainment in that era. The papers also examine the progress of the development phases of Islamic architecture, and the commercial and health advancement in various eras. In addition, they describe the academic trips to Makkah, the routes of pilgrimage trips, and the reception of Hajj delegations, and also showcase the handicraft industries and the social life of its residents.

As part of the forum's activities, 5 historical exhibitions will be held, featuring the most important fine arts, historical photos, and manuscripts. This is in addition to a model of the ancient Makkan district, and a display of the most prominent traditional outfits that describe the culture of the people of the region at the time. Moreover, the forum will also include an exhibition focusing on the glorification of the Sacred Land, and the library collection of the Saudi Historical Society.
