The Social Committee at the Council of Makkah Region held its periodic meeting last Wednesday in order to examine and discuss Umm Al-Qura University's final report on the outcomes of the workshops held in relation to the reformative alternative sanctions. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ahdal; the Director of the Social Sciences Research Center, Dr. Abdul-Hadi Al-Aidarous; and the Supervisor of the Reyada Modern Office, Dr. Esam Al-Filali.
During the meeting, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ahdal praised the role of Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Vice Presidency of Postgraduate Studies and the Deanship of Scientific Research, in preparing for the 'Alternative Sanctions' workshop in collaboration with a number of government sectors. This was in order to ensure the success of the workshop and its outcomes. Dr. Abdul-Rahman also pointed out to the role of the university in bringing relevant experts together in one place for them to discuss matters and exchange opinions in order to come up with practical proposals that will promote the concept of reformative alternatives.
Dr. Abdul-Hadi Al-Aidarous presented an overview of the outcomes of the preparatory meeting of the 'Alternative Sanctions' workshop, which was held last Jumada Al-Awwal, as well as the outcomes of the workshop. In addition, Dr. Abdul-Hadi highlighted the proposals and solutions that will contribute to finding alternative punitive methods. He added, "There is a need to paraphrase all the results in order to come up with practical proposals that will turn into effective initiatives in the future."
The Chairman of the Social Committee, Mr. Hani Sab, appreciated the academic and practical efforts exerted by Umm Al-Qura University in holding the 'Alternative Sanctions' workshop and rendering it successful. He added that the workshop recommendations will have a positive impact on the social and economic fields after turning its outcomes into practical models that will help the prisoners and their families.
