During a visit to Umm Al-Qura University to discuss its future works and plans, the Deputy Emir of Makkah Region, His Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Sultan, stressed the need to focus on the research aspects of the university, especially those that will enhance the services provided to pilgrims and visitors of the Sacred Mosque, and that the outcomes should be in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
His Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Sultan, along with His Excellency, the President of the University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, and a number of vice presidents, watched a documentary about the university's research, academic, and educational history. His Royal Highness then had a tour of the university campus in Al-Abdiyyah, which included visiting the university hospital project whose overall achievement reached 70%. The hospital has a 400-bed capacity. His Royal Highness also visited the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center at the College of Medicine, and the Educational Dentistry Hospital, which contains 75 clinics. He also visited the mobile dental clinic and reviewed the Makkah Smile Initiative, which was carried out in collaboration with the General Directorate of Education in Makkah and through which 3,000 students had their teeth checked.
Deputy Emir of Makkah Province then visited the headquarters of Wadi Makkah Technology Company and reviewed the blueprint for Wadi Makkah. This company is considered an international leader in innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. He also visited the factory that produced the e-sensors used to guide pilgrims and visitors in the Sacred Mosque and at Saudi airports. Then, he visited a number of startups that reached 12 companies in growth incubator at Wadi Makkah for Technology, Umm Al-Qura University. His Royal Highness launched the e-platform of the "growth incubator" at its second session, and the summer training at Wadi Makkah Technology Company, which is conducted by the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
For his part, his Excellency Prof. Bafail welcomed his Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Sultan, saying, "Your Royal Highness is welcome at one of the edifice of science in the Kingdom of knowledge and the first 'incubator' of higher education." He added, "During the time of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and his Crown Prince, his Royal Highness Muhammad bin Salman, may Allah protect them, Umm Al-Qura University has witnessed an acceleration of research, educational and scientific programs. Moreover, its facilities and infrastructure have increased to provide more opportunities for university education in different fields to the people of this honorable country. Umm Al-Qura University has seen approximately 93,000 students receive their education in different scientific fields at 34 colleges and institutes that comprise all scientific specializations and departments, including from its headquarters in Makkah Al-Mukarramah (males and females), and its branches in Jamoum, Al-Leith, Al-Qunfudhah and Adham governorates."
