Yesterday, Thursday, the "Alternative Sanctions Workshop" concluded its activities at King Saud Hall. This workshop was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness, the Advisor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Emir of Makkah Region, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal. The event was organized by Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Deanship of Scientific Research, and in cooperation with the Social Development Committee at the Council of Makkah Region, which is part of the Emirate of Makkah. The event was attended by His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, Dr. Hashim Hariri, member of the Province Council, and a number of experts and specialists from the participants in the workshop.
His Excellency UQU President stressed the importance of the outputs of the workshop. He stated that Umm Al-Qura University is consistently seeking to implement its strategic vision in accordance with the National Transformation Plan 2020 and the Saudi Vision 2030, which aim at employing scientific research and focus on converting academic university outcomes of research and studies into projects that achieve developmental objectives. He also praised the support of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Advisor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Emir of Makkah Province, as well as the support of His Excellency Dr. Hamad Al Sheikh, Minister of Education, for the progress of scientific research.
Moreover, Dr. Hashim Hariri, member of the Province Council, pointed out that the idea of the workshop originated from the wish of the Social Development Committee to contribute in addressing urgent social issues that require the participation of the relevant authorities and institutions. The purpose of discussing these social issues was to investigate them on a scientific basis through studies that deal with societal issues, according to legal, social, and psychological frameworks. The workshop also addressed the positive outcome of alternative sanctions, and the factors that may prevent their applications. International experiments in the application of alternative sanctions were taken into consideration, as well as field experience gained to achieve the ultimate goal of the social security of the individual.
