On Wednesday and Thursday, 15 and 16 Jumada Al-Thani, 1440 A.H., the activities of 'The Alternative Sanctions Workshop' were launched. They were organized by Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Deanship of Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Social Development Committee at the Council of Makkah Province, which is part of the Emirate of Makkah. This workshop is held under the patronage of His Royal Highness the Advisor of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Emir of Makkah Province, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal.

The number of participants totaled 29 specialists and academic researchers. It will last for two days, in which four themes will be discussed. The themes include the concept of alternative sanctions and a critical study of their origin according to the Shari`ah, psycho-social intervention and the role it plays in the activation of alternative sanctions, judicial applications and the models proposed for alternative sanctions, and international experiments in the application of alternative sanctions as well as their relation to the Saudi Vision 2030.
