Institute of Manuscripts Participates in Abu Dhabi's First Conference of Manuscripts

The Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage participates in Abu Dhabi's First Conference of Manuscripts that was organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, under the title, "Arabic Manuscripts: Reality and Issues". It was held during the period 16 to 17 of January.

The Dean of the Institute of Manuscripts and Revival of Islamic Heritage, Dr. Sa`id Al-Ghamdi, and the academic staff member at Al-Qunfudhah University College, Dr. Muhammad Al-Amri, represented the University in the conference, which sought to promote cultural relations with Arabic Manuscript Centers all over the world. Dr. Muhammad Al-Amri participated with a research paper entitled, 'Efforts of Arabic Language Academies in Spreading Arabic Heritage'.

Dr. Al-Ghamdi said, "Historical manuscripts are considered to be a very important part of the heritage of any civilization as they play a vital role in understanding the heritage and conveying it to the coming generations. Moreover, manuscripts were considered, in their golden age, to be bridges of cultural communication and cognitive exchange among peoples. The world, through them, became acquainted with the fields of knowledge in which Arabs became distinguished and to which they made great contributions.

On the part of the University, Prof. Sulaiman Al-Ayid and and Prof. Ayyad Al-Thubaiti from the College of Arabic Language attended the conference as honorary guests. The conference that lasted for two days presented 6 sessions that were offered by a group of speakers from the Middle East who have extensive experience in preserving manuscripts and literature compilations. The sessions included many themes, such as, "Arabic Manuscripts of Wars", "Reality of Arab Manuscripts in the World", "Verifying and Spreading the Arabic Heritage Movement", "Verifying Text Problems", "Great Projects for Verifying Heritage Books", and "The Verification of Gathered Texts".

On the sidelines of Abu Dhabi's First Conference, the Dean of the Institute of Manuscripts held a series of meetings with experts and representatives of agencies and authorities supervising and concerned with manuscripts and heritage. In these meetings, the Dean discussed aspects of cooperation and exchange of experience concerning all that contributes in serving the orientation and development of the Institute and achieves its comprehensive mission in serving the Islamic scientific heritage.
