UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs Launches 'Makkah Smile' Initiative in Makkah Schools

The UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, launched the initiative of Makkah Smile at the Twenty-Eighth Primary School in Al-Sharaei district. She was accompanied by the Vice-Dean of the College of Dentistry Dr. Sarah bint Wagdi Tahir, the Assistant Director of Makkah Health Affairs Directorate Ms. Radia Al-Khatabi, the Director of Eastern Makkah Education Office Ms. Sarah Al-Da`jani, the Headmistress of the Twenty-Eighth Primary School Ms. Maha Al-Qahtani, in addition to a number of vice deans and physicians of the College of Dentistry, the Supervisor of the Mobile Clinics Ms. Mona Rajih, and female employees from the Education Department.

The initiative is considered a community partnership between Umm Al-Qura University and the General Directorate of Education in Makkah, which aims to raise oral health awareness and conduct a survey about cases of caries and gum diseases of female primary school students in Makkah.

Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, UQU Vice President for Female Student Affairs, clarified that the initiative is based on the Saudi Vision 2030 and the objectives and aspirations of Umm Al-Qura University, and comes to boost cooperation between the University and other educational sectors by activating community partnerships and raising health awareness.

The Vice-Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Sarah Tahir, said that the mobile clinics are equipped with state-of-the-art technology which enables the physician to perform their tasks in the most convenient manner possible. The female students will be subject to a preliminary check and be diagnosed. Pathological cases will be referred to the Educational Hospital of the College of Dentistry.

The Mobile Clinics received 200 students from Twenty-Eighth Primary School. The School's Headmistress and the Assistant Director of Makkah Health Affairs Directorate expressed their appreciation to Umm Al-Qura University represented by College of Dentistry for its contribution to raising health awareness among the female students.
