UQU President Discusses Aspects of Cooperation with the Delegation of Islamic Development Bank

The President of Umm Al-Qura University Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail discussed aspects of mutual cooperation with the Director General of the Islamic Institute for Research and Training in the Islamic Development Bank Prof. Humayon Dar including the joint organization of the 12th International Conference for Islamic Economics and Finance 2018 between the University represented by the College of Islamic Economics and Finance and the Islamic Development Bank scheduled to be held in November 10-11, 2018 at King Abdul-Aziz Historical Hall at the university campus in Abdyia.  The meeting also discussed cooperation in the training and qualification in the areas related to executive and postgraduate studies programs.  The meeting which took place at the UQU President's office in Abdyia was attended by the Dean of the College of Islamic Economics and Finance Dr. Saleh Al-Aqla. 
    

At the commencement of the meeting, the UQU President Prof. Bafail welcomed the Director General of the Islamic Institute for Research and Training in the Islamic Development Bank Prof. Humayon Dar and his accompanying delegation pointing out that the university is looking to cooperate  with a number of regional and international organizations including Islamic Development Bank Group within its endeavors to achieve its strategic objectives which are consistent with the Kingdom Vision 2030. 

 

He explained that hosting the 12th International Conference for Islamic Economics and Finance 2018 comes as a continuation of these goals. "Selecting Umm Al-Qura University to organize this conference comes for its scientific and research excellence, outstanding competencies in these specializations and its long history in organizing such international conferences", he expounded wishing for the conference to come up with recommendations serving the local and international economies.

 

For his part, the Director General of the Islamic Institute for Research and Training Prof. Humayon Dar conveyed the greetings of the President of the Islamic Development Bank Dr. Bandar bin Mohamed Hajjar to UQU President extending his appreciations and thanks to him for the warm welcome. He added that the mechanism of organizing the 12th International Conference for Islamic Economics and Finance 2018 between the University and the Bank was discussed in addition to the training and qualification sides.   

Within the same vein, the Dean of the College of Islamic Economics and Finance and the Head of the Scientific Committee of the 12th International Conference for Islamic Economics and Finance 2018  Dr. Salih Al-Aqla valued the support and directives of the UQU President Prof. Abdullah Bafail which will contribute to upgrading the research and educational environment stressing that the conference will focus on the theoretical concepts and applicable solutions related to real economy. He added that the conference is set to stimulate debate on how Islamic economics and finance can contribute to serving the economy and boosting economic, social and environmental sustainability.   

 

He added that the scientific committee has so far received  more than 1100 work papers from 50 countries around the world on the different themes of the conference including;  Islamic economic framework for developing a real economy, Finance and Islamic banks, Takaful and Re-Takaful Services, Social responsibility and common values, Development concepts, Laws, regulations and governance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in addition to the traditional Islamic institutions and the economic situation studies.
