(Hackathon) Contest by Al-Jamoum Computer Club

The Computer Club at the University College in Al-Jamoum organized a “Hackathon” on Wednesday, 11th Rajab 1439H (28th March 2018).

A Hackathon is a global event in which computer programmers collaborate intensively on software development. The goal of a hackathon is to spread the spirit of competition and participation among students, to give them experiences that enhance their skills and innovations, and to increase their competencies and abilities in the face of software problems. The event was supervised by Ms. Ibtisam Al-Harby, Computer Club Supervisor, and organized by Ms. Sarah AL-Hindi, Head of the Club, along with the Club’s Computers Department student members. It was also held in cooperation with WTM-Alhijaz team and Ms. Hamah Al-Otaiby.

The Hackathon was held from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. At 8:00 am, the organizers of the event started welcoming participants. Between 8:15 and 8:45 am, a meeting entitled, “TensorFlow” (i.e. a Google-offered free machine learning platform) was organized. The meeting witnessed a speech by Ms. Sarah Al-Hindi, the Level10 Computer Student and Computer Club Leader and Organizer in WTM-Alhijaz.  

Between 8:45 and 9:00 am, the laws and regulations of the Hackathon were explained by Students/ Sarah and Dalal. Then, the contest started from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Students spent four hours in an atmosphere full of competition and enthusiasm. From 1:00 to 1:30 pm, winners were announced and honored by Dr. Hanady Qamara, Vice-Dean of the University College in Al-Jamoum, and Ms. Amjad, Assistant Head of the Computers Department. 

It is worth mentioning that Student/ Asayel Ali Al-Zahrany ranked first and was awarded the contest shield and golden medal. The second rank and silver medal went to Student/ Lama Adel Al-Sharif, while the third rank and bronze medal were given to Student/ Raghad Mosfer Al-Lehyani.
