Makkah Region Acting Prince, HRH Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdullaziz, received Dr. Bakri bin Matouq Assas, Umm Al-Qura University (UQU) President, at an office they called "Emirate Divan" in the holy capital, and saw the designs of the university branch in Al-Qunfudah project that will be carried out on an area of approx. 170000 square meters that were allocated to the university in the province, and it takes 160000 students. It will be finished by the beginning of the upcoming academic year (1349-1340 AH).
According to the presentation given by Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Shaari, dean of the Consulting Research and Studies Institute; the project includes buildings of the colleges of health, university, engineering and computers for male and female students. It has 53 classrooms, 42 general and specialized scientific labs, and 3 auditoriums that take about 300 students; in addition to areas for activities, a library and administrative offices.
For his part, UQU President lauded the attention and follow-up of HRH Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, advisor to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques and Prince of Makkah, along with his deputy, Prince Abdullah bin Bandar, to the programs, activities and projects are being implemented by the university. Dr. Bakri, also, pointed out that the university is aiming at implementing several academic, innovative and knowledge activities in line with the Saudi vision 2030.
He also pointed out that the number of male and female students of the university studying at the headquarters in the holy capital and its branches amounted to about 120000. All of them are enrolled in the diploma and bachelors programs as well as the Master's, PhD and higher Diploma degrees.
