College of Health Sciences in Al-Leith Launches 'Health & Fasting' Campaign

The College of Health Sciences in Al-Leith on Sunday, Ramadan 21, launched a campaign dubbed "Health and Fasting" at the Al-Leith Mall. It was organized under supervision of Pediatric Endocrinologist at the King Abdulaziz University Dr. Abd Elmoeen Al Agha and by the College of Health Sciences Students. 

Dean of College of Health Sciences in Al-Leith Dr. Faris bin Mohammed Noor Altaf said the campaign would run for five days during which free tests may be carried out at the divisions of medical tests, health education, obesity and Vitamin D deficiency, precocious puberty and short stature in children. A division would be designated to raise awareness on the dangers of excessive usage of mobile phone and plastic products. Kids area is available, he said, noting up to 25 students took part in the campaign.

Dr. Altaf underlined important ties with King Abdulaziz University which boost cooperation with the College of Health Sciences in Al-Leith. The Saudi universities share the same health concern in the Kingdom, he said. It complies with the Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing roles played by many university colleges to convey knowledge and to professionally provide high-quality community services, he said.

To this end, Dr. Altaf added, the college provides educational services in many fields including the infectious and chronic diseases and creating an attentive community and cognitive enhancement in healthy individuals. The college participated in instilling the core concepts of health in the community, he added.

The campaign is organized to raise the awareness of obesity, diabetes in children, short stature, osteomalacia and vitamin D deficiency. Also, it is meant to educate people on the benefits of fasting and health problems resulting from technology addiction (smart phones), plastic materials and decay in infants and toddlers upper front teeth.
