The College of Dentistry has launched a campaign to promote usage of Siwak or Miswak (a teeth cleaning twig) among the youth to revive the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to support volunteering. The campaign titled (Miswakha "use Miswak to clean teeth') was supported by President of Umm Al Qura University Dr. Bakri Bin M'atoog Bin Bakri Assas and held under direct supervision of Dean of College of Dentistry Dr. Mohamed Beyary. Miswak is a cleaning twig made from the Salvadora persica tree which is a natural alternative to the modern toothbrush.

Over the two-day campaign, the internship students have participated in the campaign by raising awareness on the benefits of using Miswak, its importance of toothbrushing and smoking cessation. The campaigners gathered in the first day at Al-Rajhi Mosque, Makkah to educate people in using the toothbrushing twig. They presented up to 1,500 pieces of Miswak to the attendees asking them to follow the steps of Prophet Muhammad who said:  "Were it not that I would impose too much difficulty on my Ummah, I would have commanded them to delay 'Isha' and to use the Siwak for every prayer."

Mobile teeth clinics have taken part in the campaign by presenting services of examination and diagnosis for worshipers and workers. The clinics raised the awareness of outpatients and gave them memorial gifts. Later, campaigners assembled at Makkah Mall. Internship Supervisor Dr. Alaa Makki and the campaign guest of honor Dr. Fahd Al Zahrani took part in the event that was covered by Panorama FM radio station. The campaign is part of efforts to raise awareness on the oral and dental hygiene. They encouraged people to use Miswak for oral care. They presented up to 2,000 pieces of Miswak and 300 memorial gifts to the participants.

The campaign was organized by the interns including Saleh Al Ghamdi, Abdullah Jamil, Abdullah Al Salhey, Abdullah Aqil, Abdullah Cuir, Abdulaziz Khafaji, Abdulaziz Qol, Omar Al Safri, Mohamed Radwan, Motaz Banjar, Abrar Banani, Ola Chico, Ohud Alzughaibi, Lojain Felemban, Lojain Kurdi, Lami Hijazi, Marwa Alallhibi and Dr. Baghdadi.

The group was led by intern Mohsen Al Jabri under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Hazazi. They endeavor to spread the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Makkah in addition to raising the awareness on oral health among pilgrims. The group attempts to launch similar campaigns in the future.
