President of Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas launched Rasel Communication System that gives access for email and SMS services between staff members and their students and between colleges, supportive deanships, and departments with the male and female affiliates of the university. The launching ceremony which took place in the meeting's hall of the office of the UQU president in Abdyia campus, was attended by the UQU Vice President for Development and Entrepreneurship Dr. Hani bin Osman Ghazi, Dean of Information Technology Dr. Fahad Al-Dossari, Dean of Computer and Information Systems Dr. Majid Al-Qathami and the Vice Dean of IT for e-Transactions Dr. Atef Alhejali.
At the commencement of the meeting, the UQU Vice President for Development and Entrepreneurship Dr. Hani Ghazi reiterated the importance of keeping pace with the e-service evolution as the main tool of development in the university. He said extensive changes swept the website to make it one of the best international quadrilingual sites.
He then lauded the support and directives of the UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas and praised cooperation and efforts exerted by all departments of the university in such manner which enabled the staff of the IT Deanship to provide series of e-Services which will contribute to upgrading services provided for the university affiliates.
After that, the Dean of Information Technology Dr. Fahad Al-Dossari said the deanship endeavors to continue building and developing a platform including; infrastructure, networks, databases, applications and modern and advanced programs besides continue maintaining information security of the university network, ensuring smooth flow of basic daily operations, developing new applications for website and providing wide range of e-services which will provide constructive communication between all members of the university community including; students, faculty members and employees.
He was followed by the Vice Dean of IT for e-Transactions Dr. Atef Alhejali who reviewed Rasel system that allows communication via SMS or emails between faculty members and students, supportive deanships, and different university departments indicating that after sending the message, the system immediately sends notification to recipients via special application for notification messages on iOS and Android smartphones. They can also view notifications on the university portal neat to user's name at the top of the website.
He added that the system reports the sender about the status of the message and whether it has been read or not, pointing out that the system is one of the outcomes of the trainee graduate students overseen by the IT Deanship. He then praised the support and directives of the IT Dean Dr. Fahad Al-Dossari.
For his part, Dean of Computer and Information Systems Dr. Majid Al-Qathami said the program is one of the cooperation mechanisms with IT Deanship which oversees some of the graduate projects of the college. He indicated that the college endeavors to prepare highly qualified and specialized national cadres in the fields of computer sciences, engineering, and information system.
Within the same vein, the UQU President Dr. Assas lauded the support attached by the wise leadership to the university in such manner which contributed to developing the system of e-services and educational services in the university, underscoring that launching of this system comes to serve the scientific and educational environment and ensure quality of its outcomes by making use of the latest technologies and the outstanding human expertise.
He explained that this service was preceded by a series of e-services which were designed according to the highest standards and specifications. He said this service, which assists more than 120 thousand affiliates in the university main campus and its branches, is based on a graduate project of some students under the supervision of the IT Deanship in cooperation with the College of Computer and Information System with the intention of providing students with the needed confidence and high quality training to help them serve their community and nation. He then lauded the permanent efforts of the IT Deanship to develop the system of e-services in the university.
After that, the UQU President launched Rasel system and honored students involved in the graduation project in return for their efforts exerted during their training period.
