The College of Dentistry and Makkah Education Department have launched the first field visit of "Makkah Smile" initiative targeting three thousand male and female students in the primary phase at Al-Hassan Al-Bassari Primary School. The launching ceremony was attended by the Vice Dean of the UQU College of Dentistry Dr. Mohamed Al-Harthi and the acting Director of School Health Affairs in Makkah Education Department Mr. Badr bin Abdullah Al-Maqatti, the Assistant Director of West Makkah Education Department for School Affairs Mr. Mohamed Khatim Al-Harthi and the Leader of the School Mr. Ali Al-Jabri.
The cooperation agreement signed between the two parties is intended to promote oral health under the initiative of "Makkah Smile" which targets three thousand male and female students in Makkah schools through the field visits to be made by the mobile clinics of the College of Dentistry to provide awareness to the community in general and the primary schools students in particular.
On this occasion, the Vice Dean of the College of Dentistry at Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Mohamed Al-Harthi said medical examination will be conducted on primary school students during the regular visits to these schools, fluoride also will be applied to them and the appropriate treatment intervention will be made to settle problems of caries and gum diseases in addition to making the necessary analyses to have statistics on the percentage of caries and gum diseases in the schools of Makkah for different ages. He also added that medical examinations will be conducted on about 3000 male and female student during the school year.
