President of Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas discussed with the Director of Makkah Civil Defense Major General Salim Al-Matrafi, mechanism and cooperation besides activating partnership in the research, scientific and rehabilitation fields. Present in the meeting which took place at his office at the university campus in Abdyia were; UQU Vice President for Branches Dr. Abdul-Majid Al-Ghamdi, Director of Makkah Civil Defense, Col. Abdullah bin Eid Al-Qurashi and the Director of UQU Safety Department Mr. Hani Wazzan.
At the commencement of the meeting, the Director of UQU Safety Department Mr. Hani Wazzan made a presentation on the new safety system set in all university buildings and branches in addition to safeguarding the external locations against flood risks. He said that a future educational and awareness programs and plans were prepared for all students. Addiotionaly, he said 250 employees will be trained and qualified from all deanships and department to be responsible for applying rules and regulations of professional safety in all departments.
For his part, the Director of Makkah Civil Defense Major General Salim Al-Matrafi highlighted the importance of activating partnership between Umm Al-Qura University and the General Directorate of Civil Defense of Makkah in the scientific, research, qualification and training aspects. He valued cooperation of the university administration with the civil defense directorate in some fields related to application of safety means in the different headquarters of the university. He added that attaching the needed concern to prevention and safety instructions are among the most important elements for the protection of life and property.
In turn, UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas praised cooperation mechanism with Makkah Civil Defense Directorate in several fields related to qualification and training programs indicating that the university is embarking on establishing Training Center for Risks and Crises Simulation and Occupational Safety Assurance (SAFE) which will be equipped with the latest technologies in the training process and will focus on safety and risk management fields. He added the center is one of the university initiatives to achieve the Kingdom Vision 2030 and National Transformation Program 2020.
