The Department of Islamic Architecture at the UQU College of Engineering held a ceremony to honor top students in the second semester of the academic year 1435-1436 H and the first semester of the academic year 1436-1437 H. The ceremony was attended by the College Dean, Dr. Hamza Ghalman, the Head of the Department of Islamic Architecture, Eng. Jamil Al-Salfi, staff members at the Department and the representative of the Public Relations and Media Department, Mr. Nabil bin Mohamed Madian.
The achievements made by the Department in the academic year 1436-1437 were presented. Achievements include two Master’s degree theses, participation in the creativity contest for Architectural Design which was organized by Qassim University, participation in the Fourth Saudi Forum for Planning and Designing Hospitals, the participation of the architectural design studio students in the unplanned areas contest, and the participation of seven students from the architectural design studio in the spring training program 2016 in Jeddah historical area organized by Turath Charity owned by Prince Sultan bin Salman. A program for nine free training courses was set up. Courses were given by a number of staff members. A cultural event and three specialized scientific lecturers were also organized. Besides, non-summer contests in photographing, drawing and Arabic handwriting were held.
Eng. Al-Salfi said that among the greatest achievements is the approval of the recommendation no. 37 regarding the Islamic Architecture Program (Architecture) after separating the Department from the preparatory year program, and approving the direct admission after an assessment test of the students’ drawing skills. The test will be effective starting from the academic year 1437/1438 H. In addition, the self-examination report to apply to the German international accreditation (ASINN).
At the end of the ceremony, the College Dean honored outstanding students.
