Under the auspices of Dr. Hisham ibn Abdelrahman Al-Faleh, the Counselor of the Governor of Makkah and the General Supervisor of the Assistant Deputy Governorship for Development, Eng. Adnan bin Omar Khojah, the Assistant Deputy Governor for Development inaugurated on Thursday 12 Sha’ban 1437 H. the Global Handwashing Day Campaign organized by the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah, represented by the Health Enterprises Infection Control Department in Makkah. The event took place in Souq Al-Diyafa in Makkah, and the University Medical Center and other health enterprises in Makkah participated in the relevant activities which lasted for three days from 09:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Attendees toured the exhibition in which the University Medical Center took part through a guidance and awareness corner. Each participating institution presents modern and innovative methods that contribute to stimulating health practitioners in particular, and the community in general.
The ceremony started with a welcome message, followed by a speech by Eng. Adnan bin Omar Khojah in which he stressed the role of health outreach programs in promoting the society’s awareness and building the human. He also emphasized the fact that handwashing is one of the teachings of Islam and delivered thanks to the organizers and the entities taking part in the event.
The entities taking part in the event were honored, and trophies were presented by the Assistant Deputy Governor for Development and the General Director for Health Affairs in the region of Makkah.
On the other hand, Dr. Yasser bin Hassan Ba-Hakim, the Director of the University Medical Center, pointed out that this day is organized by the World Health Organization to promote public health and increase awareness of the importance of handwashing among health practitioners and all the categories of society. The University Medical Center’s participation comes in response to an invitation from the Health Enterprises Infection Control Department in Makkah within the framework of the constant cooperation and coordination with the University Medical Center and the Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah, and based on the role of the University Medical Center as a participant in the health system in upgrading the practical performance and controlling infection as well as spreading awareness among practitioners in particular and the community in general. Dr. Ba-Hakim extended thanks to the University President, Dr. Bakri Matouq Assas for the support given to the University Medical Center and the incessant guidance provided by the University Vice-President, Dr. Yasser bin Sulaiman Shoushou, with respect to promoting and improving the services provided by the University Medical Center to all the University staff, their relatives, and whoever is entitled to receive treatment at the Center.
Dr. Ba-Hakim also thanked Mr. Saleh Ba-Jamal, Mr. Mohamed Al-Malki and the University Medical Center staff for their efforts and the great role played by them to make the participation successful in line with the high rank of the University Medical Center among governmental health enterprises.
