Umm Al-Qura University Launches the First Project of the "Green Umm Al-Qura" Initiative in Coincidence with the 91st National Day

Umm Al-Qura University launched the first project of “Green Umm Al-Qura” initiative at the university headquarters in Al-Abdiyyah in conjunction with the 91st Saudi National Day. This activity comes as part of the "Green Makkah" campaign launched by the Makkah Region Development Authority.

The Vice President for Development and Community Service, Dr. Ali Al-Shairi, and the volunteers from among the affiliates and students of the university participated in the campaign.

The General Supervisor of the General Administration of Voluntary Work and Social Responsibility, Dr. Sumayyah Sharaf, pointed out that about 300 volunteers had registered in this initiative. She added that 91 volunteers were chosen to participate in the initiative in conjunction with the 91st National Day by planting 91 trees in one of the gardens of the university headquarters' squares at Al-Abdiyyah.

She stated that the goal of the initiative was to increase the number of green spaces inside and outside the university, promote the health of the university environment, improve its urban landscape, and enhance scientific and knowledge production in the field of environmental and community health.

On their part, the affiliates and students who volunteered in the initiative expressed their pride of this initiative that contributes in serving the community and its non-profit sectors by beautifying and decorating public parks and squares in a way that goes in line with the objectives of the vision 2030.

The initiative was organized in cooperation with a group of partners: the Municipality of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Alber Charity Society in Jeddah, Salem bin Mahfouz Foundation, and Ghadan Company.
