Establishment:

The College of Teacher Preparation in Makkah is considered as one of the leading colleges across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia along with other teacher colleges. It has played a key role in providing the Ministry of Education with efficient teachers who can assume the responsibility of bringing up younger generations well and helping them to become good citizens. The college has gone through several transformational and developmental phases to cope with scientific development in a way that goes in line with the development and prosperity achieved by the Kingdom in different fields.

 

The College of Teacher Preparation in Makkah was established on Saturday 21\6\1396 AH along with the two teacher colleges of Riyadh and Dammam, under the name of "The Intermediate College" as the first intermediate college in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It aimed at developing and improving the teachers of primary schools with high school certificates or any other equivalent certificates at that time "academic institutes such as Dar Al- Tawheed and other institutes graduating primary school teachers". It takes two years for a student to have the diploma of the intermediate college in two specializations "main and subsidiary" when he becomes qualified to teach the courses of those two specializations in the primary stage.

In 1400 AH, the Center of Sciences and Mathematics was inaugurated in the college to qualify science and math teachers for intermediate stage. Therefore, the name of the college became "the Intermediate College and the Center of Sciences and Mathematics. It takes two years for a student to have the diploma of the Center of Sciences and Mathematics that qualifies him to teach either science or math courses for intermediate stage. By the beginning of 1403 AH, the intermediate college along with the Center of Sciences and Mathematics started to receive high school students to study there. They aimed at graduating efficient teachers for both the primary and intermediate stages (diploma of the intermediate college for the primary stage, diploma of the Center of Sciences and Mathematics for science and math teachers in the intermediate stage). The college then received a very small number of enrollees.

In 1404, the college was renamed into "the College of Teacher Preparation". Then the number of high school applicants (science and literature sections) started to increase.

In 1409, the bachelor's program at the colleges of teacher preparation was launched. The college was then renamed into "the College of Teachers. Study lasts for four academic years, after which a student is awarded the bachelor's degree in primary education and in one of the following specializations:

1. Qur'anic studies

2. Islamic studies.

3. Arabic language.

4. Mathematics

5. Sciences, with three branches "biology, physics, chemistry".

6. Social studies.

7. Art education.

8. Physical education.

 

By the beginning of 1412 AH, some specializations, including "social studies, Islamic studies, physical education, art education", started to receive students. Other specializations admitted only a limited number of applicants. At the same year, the course of laboratory preparers at the college of teachers in Makkah was launched. The course lasts for two academic semesters after which a student is awarded the diploma of laboratory preparers to work as such in schools.

In 1419, the path courses were launched in some colleges of teachers, including the college of teachers in Makkah. Such courses aim at graduating teachers for intermediate stage in one of the following specializations:

1- Path of mathematics.

2- Path of science "branch of biology".

3- Path of science "branch of physics".

4- Path of science "branch of chemistry".

5- Path of Arabic language.

6- Path of Qera'at.

However, the specializations that are currently available at the college of teachers in Makkah are:

1- Bachelor's degree of the primary stage "Qur'anic studies"

2- Bachelor's degree of the primary stage "mathematics".

3- Path of Arabic language.

4- Path of mathematics.

5- Path of science "branch of biology".

6- Path of science "branch of physics".

7- Path of science "branch of chemistry"

8- Course of laboratory preparers.

Objectives

 Preparing teachers who are qualified both educationally and academically and who adhere to Islamic teachings

 Promoting the level of educational and academic qualification of leading teachers and refreshing their information

 Contributing to the development of academic curricula and textbooks for the primary stage, in coordination with the concerned bodies

 Contributing to the preparation, development and execution of training programs and courses for teachers of different stages of education
