The Department of Scholarships is specialized in serving all regular Non-Saudi students at the university at all academic levels.

 

Scholarship Definition:

It is an academic seat allocated by the university to the accepted Non-Saudi students at the Institute of Arabic Language at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, combined with the provision of the financial benefits prescribed by the system to support these students.

 

Scholarship Objective:

Learn Arabic language; the language of the Qur’an, Shari’ah science, and right Aqidah (Creed), in order for the student to return to his home country qualified for preaching the religion of truth. Or, learn the applied, social and scientific sciences in line with the UQU objectives.  

Scholarship Types:

The Saudi government offers 2 types of scholarships for Non-Saudis to study at Saudi universities:

  1. Internal Scholarships for Non-Saudi students whom are regular residents in the KSA.
  2. External Scholarships for Non-Saudi students from outside the KSA.

Scholarships at the Saudi universities come in 3 types, with regard to their different benefits:

  1. Full Scholarships: Provision of full benefits to the student.
  2. Partial Scholarships: Provision of partial benefits to the student, as the educational institution has the right to offer the student an academic seat only, or an academic seat and accommodation.
  3. Paid Scholarships: Provision of sponsorship/grant to the student by other non-university entity.

These scholarships are regulated as per the regulations of the Educational Institution Council, with no contradiction to its rules.

Units of the Department of Scholarships:

The Department of Scholarships contains the following Units:

  1. Computers Unit.
  2. Tickets and Travel Unit.
  3. Passports Unit.
  4. Archive Unit.

 

Responsibilities of the Department of Scholarships:

  1. Complete the acceptance procedures of the foreign students for the external scholarships through the E-Scholarships Program, and external scholarships candidates at the Institute of Arabic Language, and the colleges of the university.
  2. Complete the acceptance procedures of the Gulf and Yemeni students for the external scholarships through the E-Scholarships Program, and external scholarships candidates at the colleges of the university.
  3. Complete the acceptance procedures of the resident students for the internal scholarships through the E-Scholarships Program, and internal scholarships candidates at the colleges of the university
  4. Issue study permits for foreign students that obtained external scholarships, after the approval of the Ministry of Education.
  5. Send acceptance notifications to the students accepted for external scholarships.
  6. Refer the newcomer students to the Medical Department to undergo the required medical examination.
  7. Refer the names of the accepted students for external and internal scholarships at undergraduate level to the Deanship of Admission and Registration, after the approval of the Ministry of Education.
  8. Refer the names of the accepted students for external and internal scholarships at postgraduate level to the Deanship of Graduate Studies, after the approval of the Ministry of Education.
  9. Refer the files of the accepted students at the diploma level to the Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives, after their arrival to the KSA and matching them with their original certificates.
  10. Issue the administrative decree required to place them on their designated scholarships, and have them approved by the university President.
  11. Complete requirements of residence permit issuance, in coordination with the Passports of the Holy Capital, for the students sponsored by the university.
  12. Provide the students an enrollment statement for a number of entities in concern.
  13. Complete nomination requirements for the Institute’s graduates with distinction to enroll to university level.
  14. Grant the eligible students travel tickets, and reentry permits to spend their summer vacation in their countries.
  15. Submit the actual cost of the tickets of the scholarships students to the Department of Planning and Budgeting, to be included in the university’s budget.
  16. Issue the enrollment termination decrees of the graduates whom have ended their study relation with the university, have them approved by the university President, and coordinate with the Passports of the Holy Capital to grant them final departure visas.
  17. Submit compensation requests for the value of the students’ tickets that arrived to the KSA at their own expenses, to the Department of Finance.
  18. Save students papers and documents in a special archive at the department.

 

Achievements of the Department of Scholarships:

  1. Serve nearly 2,360 students through external scholarships, and facilitate all their procedures to enable them to study at the university comfortably.
  2. Begin to transform the transactions of the department from paper transactions to electronic transactions.
  3. Apply Oracle program in all transactions inside the department.

 

E-Services Provided to the Scholarships Students:

External Scholarships (Gulf Cooperation Council Students (GCC))

  1. The GCC students receive the same treatment as the Saudi students; i.e. they are not required to issue residency or travel visa.
  2. The GCC students receive round-trip ticket once a year, and in order for the student to receive this service he should submit the following documents:
  • Form of Travel Ticket Issuance Request.
  • Enrollment statement.
  • Copy of passport.
  • Go to Al-Tayyar office to make a reservation on the day the student prefers.

Overseas Scholarships (Foreign Students from Other Countries):

  1. Issue Residency: In order for the student to receive this service he should submit the following documents:
  • University acceptance statement.
  • Original passport and 2 copies.
  • Undergo the medical examination at the University Medical Center.
  • 2 copies of the academic certificate.
  • 2 copies of the transcript.
  • 2 copies of the student birth certificate.
  • 2 copies of the medical examination underwent by the student in his home country.
  • 2 copies of the police records of the student in his home country.
  • 2 copies of the academic recommendations.
  • 6 personal photos.

 

  1. Residency Renewal: In order for the student to receive this service he should submit the following documents:
  • Enrollment statement.
  • Copy of residency.
  • 1 personal photo.

 

  1. Reentry Permit Issuance: In order for the student to receive this service, he should submit the following documents:
  • Form of Reentry Permit Issuance and Ticket Request.
  • Enrollment statement.
  • Copy of residency.
  • 1 personal photo.

 

  1. Final Departure Visa Issuance: In order for the student to receive this service, he should submit the following documents:
  • Clearance Form from the university.
  • Copy of residency.
  • 1 personal photo.

 

Domestic Scholarships:

Non-Saudi, resident students on internal scholarships do not receive monthly stipend nor travel ticket.

Applying for Internal Scholarships at Undergraduate Level:

Acceptance Conditions:

  1. High school certificate shouldn’t be older than 5 years.
  2. Student’s high school certificate should be received from a Saudi school or an equivalent.
  3. Student’s age should be less than 25, at the time of admission.
  4. Completion of proficiency and aptitude tests.
  5. Validation of student’s residency, at the time of application.
  6. Student’s score should be (High school 50% + aptitude 20% + proficiency 30%) more than 85%, or as determined by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
  7. Student’s application should be submitted to the UQU Admission Gate, so as not to be disregarded.

How to apply:

  1. Open the UQU website and register to the Admission Gate according to the dates determined by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
  2. Upload the documents through the Admission Gate.
  3. The Deanship of Admission and Registration nominates the students names to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs to be submitted by the E-Scholarships Program.
  4. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  5. After the issuance of the final approval by the Ministry of Education, a copy is sent to the Deanship of Admission and Registration to finalize students’ registration procedures, and give them academic numbers. 

 

Applying for Internal Scholarships for Postgraduate Level:

Acceptance Conditions:

  1. Study certificate should be received from a Saudi university or an equivalent.
  2. Student’s age at the time of admission less than 25 year-old for high diploma, less than 30 year-old for masters, and less than 35 for PhD.
  3. Student should pass the oral and written tests.
  4. Student’s residency should be valid at the time of admission.
  5. Student’s application should be submitted to the UQU Admission Gate, so as not to be disregarded.

 

How to apply:

  1. Open the UQU website and register to the Admission Gate according to the dates determined by the Deanship of Graduate Studies.
  2. Upload the documents through the Admission Gate.
  3. The Deanship of Graduate Studies nominates the students names to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs to be submitted by the E-Scholarships Program.
  4. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  5. After the issuance of the final approval by the Ministry of Education, a copy is sent to the Deanship of Postgraduate to finalize students’ registration procedures, and give them academic numbers. 

Applying to External Scholarships for Diploma:

Acceptance Conditions:

The Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives determines the acceptance conditions.

How to apply:

  1. Open the UQU website and register to the Admission Gate according to the dates determined by the Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives.
  2. Upload the documents through the Admission Gate.
  3. The Institute of Arabic Language nominates the students names to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs to be submitted by the E-Scholarships Program.
  4. Data are submitted to the Department of Scholarships in a statement including the students’ names, addresses, cell phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the students’ files that contain electronic copies for their academic documents.
  5. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  6. After the issuance of the final approval by the Ministry of Education, a request for study permits is submitted to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then the Deputy Ministry of Education for Educational Affairs is addressed to approve the issuance of the study permits by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on the requests submitted by the university.
  7. A copy of the final approval is sent to the Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives, for information and proper action.
  8. After granting the student the study permit by the Embassies of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the student purchases a ticket and comes to the KSA.
  9. After the arrival of the student to the university, he receives his file and medical examination paper, and a university member guides him to the students’ dorm at the university.
  10. After passing the medical examination, the student is granted the residency and his file is sent to the Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives to give him an academic number, and start his study.
  11. The student opens an account in one of the local banks after receiving a statement from the Deanship of Students Affairs, and then he verifies his bank account number with the Deanship of Students Affairs to receive his monthly stipend and arrival allowance (2 months stipend).

 

Applying for External Scholarships for Bachelor Level:

Acceptance Conditions:

The Deanship of Admission and Registration determines the acceptance conditions.

 

How to apply:

  1. Open the UQU website and register to the Admission Gate according to the dates determined by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
  2. Upload the documents through the Admission Gate.
  3. The Deanship of Admission and Registration nominates the students names to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs to be submitted by the E-Scholarships Program.
  4. Data are submitted to the Department of Scholarships in a statement including the students’ names, addresses, cell phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the students’ files that contain electronic copies for their academic documents.
  5. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  6. After the issuance of the final approval by the Ministry of Education, a request for study permits is submitted to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then the Deputy Ministry of Education for Educational Affairs is addressed to approve the issuance of the study permits by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, based on the requests submitted by the university.

  4. Data are submitted to the Department of Scholarships in a statement including the students’ names, addresses, cell phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the students’ files that contain electronic copies for their academic documents.
  5. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  6. Acceptance Conditions:

The Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives determines the promotion conditions.

How to apply:

  1. The Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives nominates the names of the students to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs, to be submitted through the E-Scholarships Program.
  2. Data are submitted to the Department of Scholarships in a statement including the students’ names, addresses, cell phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the students’ files that contain electronic copies for their academic documents.
  3. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  4. A copy of the final approval issued by the Ministry of Education is sent to the Institute of Teaching Arabic Language for Non-Natives, and the Deanship of Admission and Registration, for information and coordination between one another to grant the students their academic numbers for the bachelor level.

 

Promotion from a Graduate Level to Another on External Scholarships:

Acceptance Conditions:

The Deanship of Graduate Studies determines the promotion conditions.

How to apply:

  1. The Deanship of Graduate Studies nominates the names of the students to the Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs, to be submitted through the E-Scholarships Program.
  2. Data are submitted to the Department of Scholarships in a statement including the students’ names, addresses, cell phone numbers, and email addresses, along with the students’ files that contain electronic copies for their academic documents.
  3. The Department of Scholarships at the Deanship of Students Affairs submits the documents of the nominated students through the E-Scholarships Program, pending final approval.
  4. A copy of the final approval issued by the Ministry of Education is sent to the Deanship of Graduate Studies to grant the students their academic numbers for the graduate level.
