 King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz Chair for Makkah Historical Studies was established in accordance with Article (18/20) of the Higher Education and Universities Council Act, and by virtue of the approval of Umm Al-Qura University Council in its fifth session held on  Jumada II 26, 1431H on the research chairs program and its proposed rules.

Noteworthy, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, signed the agreement concerning the establishment of King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz AlSaud Chair for Makkah Historical Studies with Umm Al-Qura University, represented by President of the University  Dr. Bakri Bin M'atoog Bin Bakri Assas and King Abdul-Aziz Foundation represented by Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Samari on Sunday Rabie I  24,  1432 H, and work in this chair has commenced ever since.
