HRH, Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh Region, received at his office at the Palace, the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Ankari, Secretary General of King Abdulaziz Foundation, Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Samari, President of Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Bakri bin Matouq Asas, the Vice-Presidnet of Cognitive and Creative Work, Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Nabil bin Abdulkader Koshk, Sheikh Dr. Saud bin Ibrahim Al-Shuraim, Dean of Sharia and Islamic Studies Faculty, University of Umm Al-Qura and Imam of the Grand Mosque for signing an agreement between King Adbulaziz Foundation and Umm Al-Qura University concerning the establishment of Prince Salman’s Chair for the Study of Mecca’s History at the University of Umm Al-Qura.
During the meeting, a number of issues that concern higher education were generally discussed and those which concern the University of Umm Al-Qura in particular. Then HRH Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh Region and Chairman of King Abdulaziz Foundation, sponsored signing the contract concerning founding Prince Salman’s Chair for the Study of Mecca’s History at the University of umm Al-Qura in Mecca. This chair aims to invest all scientific source, such as periodicals, researches, transcripts and publications to support the scientific research movement and thorough studies concerning the history of the holy capital; also, attracting the best local and international researchers who are distinguished in different specializations and making the best use of their experiences so that this chair fulfills its noble mission.
The contract of establishing the chair was signed on behalf of King Abdulaziz Foundation by its Secretary-General, Dr. Fahd Abdulla Al-Semari and on behalf of Umm Al-Qura University by its President Dr. Bakri bin Matouq Asas who both thanked HRH Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh Region and Chairman of King Abdulaziz Foundation, for his sponsorship of launching this scientific chair and his support of research to achieve more input in scientific research on KSA level and enhance interest in Islamic History.
After signing the agreement concerning the establishment of the new chair, the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Ankari expressed his gratitude saying, “I would like to thank HRH Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh Region and Chairman of King Abdulaziz Foundation, for his kind sponsorship of this scientific collaboration between the prestigious scientific institution, King Abdulaziz Foundation, and a renowned educational institution for its continuous research in the political, social and cultural history of Mecca, owing to Mecca’s great religious stature in the Islamic world.”
HE the Minister of Higher Education added, “Owing to the leading position the Saudi universities occupy in society, they are greatly honored to foster a number of scientific chairs to enhance the inclination towards supporting research and scientific studies, as scientific research remains the real objective for developing any society. Among these scientific chairs are those bearing the name of HRH Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz in more than one Saudi university, as HRH is so keen to inspire life in historical studies and support them in so many ways.”
Also, the Secretary General of King Abdulaziz Foundation, Dr. Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Samari, expressed his gratitude to HRH prince of Riyadh region and the Chairman of King Abdulaziz Foundation for his support of the Foundation’s aspirations to serve Islamic and Arab history, including Saudi history and his support of this chair’s scientific and research capabilities. As HE stated, “In the near past Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Chair of the Arabian Peninsula historical and Cultural Studies was launched in collaboration with King Saud university, hence the launch of its scientific activities. Today, King Abdulaziz Foundation is honored to sign this new scientific collaboration via the new chair bearing the name of the Prince of Historians and Advocate of Researchers. This diversity in historical research is achieved owing to a university that has a long, fruitful academic and scientific tradition of distinguished service of historical affairs. This collaboration and turning to higher education institutions is in line with the Foundation’s strategy, directed by HRH Prince of Riyadh Region and its Chairman, may God protect him, to enhance collaboration, synergy and integration between them and the different scientific centers, including Saudi universities, as well as establishing joint teams. The Ministry of Higher Education, headed by HE Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Ankari certainly plays a pivotal role in harmonizing these two routes and giving this matter the ultimate support, so as to facilitate the performance of the university as a higher educational institution for the role it plays in scientific research.”
In the same context, HE President of Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Bakri bin Matouq Asas, after the signing ceremony commented, “I speak for myself and on behalf of the University and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute of Hajj Research staff in sincerely thanking HRH Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prince of Riyadh region and the Chairman of King Abdulaziz Foundation for his care and the interest he showed towards establishing this chair that bears his name, may God protect him, in reality. I also thank HE Minister of Higher Education for his continuous support to fully assist the scientific research movement and diversify its sources and channels, so as to carry out its historic role”. Umm Al-Qura University President added, “This collaboration is certainly a big stride in the history of scientific research in the university and an enhancement of its role in this critical aspect. This chair is a means of collaboration with an influential national scientific institution that played a leading patriotic and historic role, in which it achieved one success after another, that which has many evidences, the latest of which is the Mecca History Center, hence we expect that the consolidated efforts with King Abdulaziz Foundation for serving the history of the holy city of Mecca will lead to the realization of big scientific and corporate objectives, owing to the integration between the Foundation’s expertise and the University’s academia.
