Diploma Introduction

The Architectural Program was designed to qualify graduates to deal with architectural drawings relying on computer technologies and advanced techniques, including surveying, designing, and techniques of construction and building.

Importance of the Diploma in the Architectural Program

The Diploma of Architectural Technician is one of the most important programs conducted by the Makkah Community College due to the accelerating urban development that the Saudi Kingdom is witnessing, especially in the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and the huge developmental projects, including a wide range of enterprises, starting with the expansion, renewal and development of the Sacred Mosque, and going through the expansion projects in the central area to improve both the quality and size of its architectural environment, due to the increase of demand for such projects. This is in addition to the ambitious plan of Hajj and Umrah and the increase in the absorptive capacity of pilgrims (10 million pilgrims and 30 million performers of Umrah).

All these factors helped in increasing the demand for engineering and architectural specializations in Makkah Al-Mukarramah Province, and well-qualified Muslim engineers and technicians who are well-versed in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the nature of work there. This is the main reason for establishing a specialized diploma that meets the needs of the labor market.

Work Opportunities for Graduates

The graduate of the Diploma of Architectural Technician is considered to be a distinguished graduate, as most community colleges in the Saudi Kingdom do not have this specialization, which teaches several technical and practical skills required for working in many fields, such as:

  1. Working in governmental departments related to urbanization, following up and planning, such as (the Secretariat of the Holy City, municipalities, Makkah Development Authority).
  2. Working in engineering and development offices.
  3. Working in technical offices for specialized contracting companies (supervisor and executive personnel).
  4. Working in technical offices for specialized contracting companies (business planning, inventory control, project management)
  5. Additionally, the program is very flexible as the graduate can, according to university conditions and requirement, complete his education at the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture to obtain a bachelor degree.

Distinctive Features of the Program

  • As a qualifying and complementary program, it is very comprehensive.
  • It is considered to be a unique program in community colleges at the level of the Kingdom, as graduates from most of the similar programs are architectural draughtsmen.
  • The program teaches specific skills related to the specialized field of information architecture, skills in using computers in different specializations, and skills needed on location (execution and supervision).

Study Period

Duration of study in the specialization of Architectural Technician is two years (four semesters), which includes 69 credited hours in addition to a field training program of two months: eight weeks (in the summer semester, 4 credit hours). This makes the total 73 hours.
