Overview:

The UQU Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education was established with the objective of providing services for students and teaching staff, and improving university Learning outcomes within a framework that accomplishes the university strategic objectives. 

 

E-learning is a technology-based mode of learning that utilizes modern communication technologies such as computers, networks, and multimedia (audio, video, graphics, etc), in addition to search tools, e-libraries and portals (whether in class or distantly). E-Learning enables live interaction between the student, the instructor, and the course being studied in a proper and convenient educational environment that overcomes the limitation of time and space. It is also deemed to be a perfect solution for education seekers who don't have time to enroll in the conventional academic programs. Through e-learning, furthermore, academics from the world's top universities would be able to provide e-courses. And compared to conventional learning, e-learning can cover a far larger segment of education seekers.

 

Through its Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education, UQU sets its sights on providing e-learning services based on integrated IT infrastructure and learning environment. It also seeks to support the teaching staff to develop e-courses and learning units by making use of the modern e-learning methods and techniques, as well as academic accreditation. Besides, it helps reduce the time necessary for developing the programs and providing integrated services and solutions in this field. Other objectives include: ensuring access to the content through the educational store, setting a mechanism to develop the content of the e-courses, encouraging teamwork in developing the programs, and assuring quality through the continuous evaluation and updating of the e-courses. 

 

Establishment:

The UQU Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education has come into being in 1432H amidst a national atmosphere of governmental support to developing e-services in general; the door was opened for all opportunities and favorable conditions that would encourage adopting e-learning in the Kingdom. As such, UQU has established the Deanship in line with the government trend to encourage and adopt e-learning technologies in the educational community. In one of its prime objectives, it is noteworthy, the National Communication and Information Technology Plan, endorsed by the Council of Ministers, has placed particular emphasis on adopting e-learning technologies to provide education for all Saudi citizens throughout the Kingdom's regions.

 

Mission:

The Deanship of e-Learning and Distance Education takes as its mission continuous improvement of the educational process by means of activating and developing an advanced technology-enhanced learning system and qualifying both faculty members and students.

 

Vision:

The Deanship of e-Learning and Distance Education desires to take the lead in e-learning and distance education at the national and global levels.

Objectives:

  • To build effective learning expertise based on students’ participation, in such a manner as to realize the necessary learning outcomes and develop the skills necessary for the 21st century;
  • To support the University teaching staff and help them to become proficient in developing and providing online-based learning programs and courses, so as to obtain property rights of such courses and curricula;
  • To provide the necessary resources for implementing the Deanship’s strategy across departments and the University as general;
  • To create an advanced, effective and secure computer-based evaluation system to save time of the teaching staff, support learning (evaluation) and measure students' performance (total);
  • To develop an intuitive and active learning environment, by adopting such systems as the Learning Management System (LMS), and Managed Learning Environment (MLE).
