About:

The Umm Al-Qura University’s (UQU) Coordination and Follow-up Unit of Research Supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) is the link between the KACST (regarded as a supportive body of scientific researches) and UQU researchers, including teaching staff and graduate students, willing to apply for scholarships and follow up researches supported by KACST. The unit is tasked with overcoming all obstacles facing researchers until they finish their researches under the umbrella of the Vice-Presidency for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, represented by His Excellency the Vice-President for Scientific Research and His Excellency the Dean of Scientific Research.

Programs presented by the General Directorate for Research Grants (GDRG):

Scholarships:

The researches and studies supported by the city are divided into four groups as follows: 

Large Scholarships: Under this program, a number of researches exist alongside fields of study that look into the pure physical phenomena which is meant to increase human scientific data base. This type of studies includes pure theoretical researches. 

Applied Scholarships: Under this program, a number of researches exist alongside fields of study that look into the scientific researches covering problem solutions and being used in applied researches to find real-life problem solutions in addition to means to address diseases and achieve innovative developments. These fields cover results of main researches and studies in order to be used for solving specific issue or to answer specific question.

Development Scholarships: Under this program, a number of researches exist to cover usage of research and knowledge results production and new material applications in addition to applying new mechanisms and techniques in the fields of agriculture, engineering, medicine, etc to develop prototypes.

Social and Humanity Scholarships: Under this program, a number of researches exist to cover fields of sociology, economics, education, management, human resources, qualification and training, archeology, anthropology, languages, etc.

Under the three programs, researches are classified as follows: Large-scaled studies - Brief study (Limited) – Postgraduate researches – National studies – Joint studies

Under the social and humanity scholarships, programs are either classified as large-scaled studies or national studies

Types of researches:

Large-scaled studies: are researches that should be carried out by a number of multi-specialized researches to make a study in at least two years. Such studies may be classified as fundamental, applied, developmental, societal, or humanitarian studies.

Brief (limited) studies: researches that are meant to achieve specific goals in a short period of time in the pure scientific fields. They may be classified as fundamental, applied or developmental studies. Also, they may be used to implement patentable innovative works with new applications.

Postgraduate studies: researches that may be carried out at educational organizations inside the kingdom by researches in order to get Master's or Ph.D. degree in the fields of pure sciences (Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture and Science). They may be classified as fundamental, applied or developmental studies.

National studies: researches that are meant to find solutions for urgent problems nationwide and that may be used under directions given to research teams or any other studies managed by national committees.

The student should have completed 50% of courses.

The research proposal should be approved by an educational institution.
