  • What are the regulations followed to transfer the students of the UQU medical colleges to the College of Medicine?
    Yes. This should be according to the following rules: Transfer will be allowed for the students who pass the Joint First Year Medical Stream program, finishing without repeating or failing the specialized requirements: Fundamentals of Biochemistry 1, Fundamentals of Biochemistry 2, Cell Physiology, Basics of Medical Genetics, Learning Skills, Computer Science, Introduction to Medical Physics, and English Language), according to the approved study plan of the preparatory program, medical stream. A student who is enrolled in any program of a medical college in the university may be transferred to the College of Medicine, provided that their grade is not less than 3.75. 2- Grades during the preparatory year should be greater than 853. An E-transfer should be submitted during the period of transfer specified by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.

  • How many years of study are required at the College of Medicine at Umm Al-Qura University?
    The Medicine and Surgery Program consists of three stages and six academic years, in addition to the internship year. The first stage: it is the first year of joint health specializations and it is under the supervision of the Joint First Year Deanship at Umm Al-Qura University. The second stage: it consists of five academic years, in which the student is equipped with the basic sciences and the clinical skills necessary to prepare students for graduation. The third stage: it consists of 12 months of training spent by the student in one of the hospitals of the Ministry of Health in the city of Makkah and some hospitals in Jeddah governorate. During this year, the students apply the skills they have learned in the past five years, under the supervision of an integrated medical team and follow-up from the College of Medicine.
  • What is the curriculum of the College of Medicine?
    The College of Medicine at Umm Al-Qura University aims to graduate the best national talents and prepare them to serve the country. So, the college is keen to provide the best curriculum in medical schools around the world. To achieve this end, an agreement has been signed with London University College to develop the curriculum of the College of Medicine.
  • What are the skills and proficiencies that the college aims to entrench in its students?
    The college seeks to establish the skills of graduates of the Colleges of Medicine in the Kingdom accredited by the Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission. These consist of: • Following a scientific approach to medical practice. • Providing optimal medical care to patients according to their needs. • Systematic medical practice based on the needs and concepts of community. • Developing the skill of communication and cooperation of the graduates with the medical team and the community. • Professionalism in dealing with the medical team and the community. • Developing scientific research and continuing education skills.
  • Can I register for a summer term?
    Registration for the summer term is only available for general subjects: Holy Qur'an, Islamic Culture, Arabic Language, and Biography of the Prophet, according to the university system.
  • What are the accredited hospitals for training during the period of study in the College of Medicine?
    Students are trained in most hospitals of the Ministry of Health in Makkah, at King Abdullah Medical City in the Holy Capital, and the program of the Ministry of Interior's Security Forces Hospital. Training is available for students in most primary care centers in Makkah and some hospitals in Jeddah. In the meantime, they engage with the medical teams in these hospitals and centers based on several agreements concluded with the administration of these hospitals and the college.
  • What are the volunteering opportunities available for the male and female students of the college?
    The college avails, within the curriculum of the different academic years, various volunteering opportunities for serving the pilgrims and Umrah performers. During these seasons, the college participates with many governmental sectors, such as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior, to facilitate the journey of the guests of Allah (Al-Rahman) during both seasons of Hajj and Umrah. Moreover, there are volunteering opportunities organized by the Student Club of the College of Medicine, with the participation of a number of the male and female students of the college of different academic stages and under the supervision of the academic staff for participation in the awareness campaigns, the health education of society and activation of the health world days, such as World Diabetes Health Day. This is in addition to raising awareness about seasonal vaccinations, breast cancer, Alzheimer's, and other volunteering awareness campaigns needed by society under distinctive organized academic supervision.
  • What are the research opportunities available for the male and female students of the college?
    Because scientific research is one of the most important skills that the college seeks to instill in its graduates, the college avails for its students (males and females) many research opportunities under the supervision of the academic staff of the college, which are considered a part of the updated curriculum of the college and a main requirement of the graduation requirements. The college also has a board for issuing ethical approval for research.
  • When are students denied entry to the final exam in the event of absence?
    Students are denied entry to the final exam if the percentage of their absence exceeds 25% of the total lectures, as well as the scientific, field, and clinical lessons. The Grade D (Deprived of entering the final exam) is recorded in the grade field of the academic record and they shall be considered Failed in that subject.
  • Are there exceptions when the absence of a student exceeds the time allowed by the set rules, due to a compelling circumstance (Allah forbid)?
    Yes, in this case the student must submit a written excuse to the academic office at the college, which will be presented to the college council. If the request is accepted, the student shall be admitted on the condition that their course attendance rate and punctuality during the academic year does not fall below 50%.
  • What are the procedures followed if a student is absent from the final exam due to a compelling reason?
    The student must submit their excuse request to the Academic Office, which in turn presents it to the College Council. If accepted, the student shall be allowed to take the final exam in the subject by no later than the end of the next semester.
  • When does the enrollment of a non-attending student become terminated?
    If a regular student drops a semester without a prior deferral request, their enrollment at the university shall be terminated.
  • In what cases does a student become subject to final dismissal from the college?
    A- When a student receives at least three consecutive warnings due to a cumulative GPA below 1 out of 4. However, based on the recommendation of the College Council, the University Council may grant a fourth chance for students who can improve their GPA by studying the courses available. B- When a student fails to complete the graduation requirements within a maximum of half the period specified for graduation, in addition to the program duration. The University Council may grant the student an exceptional opportunity to complete the graduation requirements within a maximum period not exceeding twice the original duration specified for graduation. C- The University Council may, in exceptional cases, address the situation of the students who meet the provisions of the preceding two clauses (a) or (b) and give them an exceptional opportunity to complete their studies within an extra period of two semesters maximum.
  • What is the IP grade in the academic record obtained by the student at the end of the first semester for subjects that last two semesters?
    It means In-Progress. The student's score is recorded at the end of the second semester.
  • Is there an opportunity for students of health colleges at the university to transfer to the College of Medicine?
    Yes, this shall be in accordance with the following regulations: No transfer is permitted except for students who pass the Joint First Year Medical Stream program, finishing without repeating or failing the specialized requirements: Fundamentals of Biochemistry 1, Fundamentals of Biochemistry 2, Cell Physiology, Basics of Medical Genetics, Learning Skills, Computer Science, Introduction to Medical Physics, and English Language), according to the approved study plan of the preparatory program, medical stream. A student who is enrolled in any program of a medical college in the university may be transferred to the College of Medicine, provided that their grade is not less than ‘Excellent’.
