Under the auspices of His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, the Vice Presidency for Educational Affairs, represented by the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education, organized the ceremony of Umm Al-Qura University E-Learning Award on Tuesday, 8 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1440 A.H., corresponding to 5 November, 2019 A.C., at King Abdulaziz Historical Support Hall I.
The ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Vice President for Educational Affairs, Prof. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Rashad Suruji, His Excellency the Vice President of the University, Prof. Dr. Farid bin Ali Al-Ghamdi, deans of the colleges and institutes, support deans, and faculty members.
In his opening speech, His Excellency the Dean of E-Learning, Dr. Khalid Al-Mutairi, welcomed His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, and all those present, praising the support His Excellency the President assigns to all deanship initiatives, including the Umm Al-Qura University E-Learning Award. The Vice Dean for Technical Affairs, Dr. Ahmad bin Muhammad Humaid, gave a presentation on the branches of the award, which include three branches: the Excellence Award for Implementation of E-Learning Systems, which aims to motivate faculty members at the university to use the tools of the e-learning systems in facilitating their daily tasks, and boost students engagement and use of modern learning techniques; the Excellence Award for the Development of E-Courses, which aims to encourage the participation of faculty members in creating effective e-courses to be provided through the university’s e-learning portal; the Excellence Award for Enriching the Content through the "SHMS" platform, which aims to encourage faculty members to contribute to enriching the open content through the Saudi Resources Network, SHMS. The award is one of the initiatives of the National Center that seeks to create a sustainable path of partnership in content design and its improvement, and also promote the Saudi digital learning content.
The ceremony included honoring the male and female winners in the three branches, where His Excellency the President honored the colleges and faculty members who are most active in using the system, are distinguished in the development of courses, and upload the largest amount of educational resources on the SHMS platform.
His Excellency the President also launched the second edition of the award, which will still consist of its three branches, with the addition of a special branch for students to motivate them to use the e-learning system.
The audience watched a video presentation on the services of the Deanship for E-Learning and Distance Education, as well as the live testimonies of the winners from the faculty members within the framework of the development of e-courses.
