College of Community Service and Continuing Education Activates the World Day of Prevention against Breast Cancer

Due to the University's role in serving and educating the community, the College of Community Service and Continuing Education developed an educative program entitled, 'Do not be the Eighth'. This program comes simultaneously with the activities of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, 'Pink Month'. It was developed in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Hospital in the Holy City of Makkah, and aimed at pointing out the importance of early detection of breast cancer and the ways of protecting oneself against it. The events began in the morning of Monday, 11 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1440 A.H.

The program was carried out under the patronage of his Excellency the Dean of the College of Community Service and Continuing Education, Prof. Khalid bin Yusuf Barqawi, in honor of Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, the Vice-President of Umm Al-Qura University for Female Student Affairs.

The events included a lecture delivered by Prof. Malak Hasan Alwi. The two medical physics specialists, Ms. Masha`il Faysal Yamani and Ms. Taghrid Hasan Sa`id, from King Abdulaziz Hospital in the Holy City of Makkah. The lecture aimed at enlightening the attendants about the importance of the early detection of breast cancer, the most important methods of diminishing the probability of suffering from it, and how to perform self-examination. Moreover, there were also visual displays and diverse sections that aimed at making the students fully aware of the disease.

The activity gained the admiration and interaction of the attendants. The Vice-Dean of the College of Community Service and Continuing Education, Dr. Zainab bint Muhammad Al-Khidr Al-Qadi, pointed out that the goal of the program was to increase the awareness of the affiliates of the College in general and female students in particular about breast cancer, and promote the different forms of medical and preventive steps against this disease.

At the end of the program, the Vice-Dean of the College of Community Service offered the thanks of the whole college to her Excellency the Vice-President for Female Student Affairs because of her honoring the program by her attendance. She also offered thanks to the medical team that was honored by her Excellency the Vice-President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah bint Omar Al-Khuli, who stressed the importance of these activities and thanked the medical team and the program's team, headed by Her Excellency the Vice-Dean of the College, Dr. Zainab bint Muhammad Al-Khidr Al-Qadi, for their great efforts in rendering this activity successful.
