In the framework of carrying out its programs and introductory activities for the current semester, and in coordination with the College of Applied Sciences, the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education held an introductory meeting on how to use e-learning systems for the students of the College of Applied Sciences.

It was presented by Dr. Al-As`ad Qasim Al-Sumayrani on Monday, 4 Rabi' Al-Awwal, 1440 A.H., corresponding to 12 November, 2018 A.C. The approved trainer in the Chemistry Department, Dr. Ahmad Al-Dafrawi, attended the activities of the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, a brief survey on the Deanship programs during the current academic year was offered. These programs aimed at offering workshops and introductory meetings on how to use learning system management, and make use of its tools. This training course covered three focal points: the importance of e-learning, the available infrastructure at Umm Al-Qura University, the learning environment and building e-content.

After giving an introduction on the importance of e-learning, the core subject of the course related to e-learning bases was discussed as well as the Ta`alm platform that Umm Al-Qura University offers to students and academic affiliates. An explanation on the different available tools and system homepage contents, such as news, settings, calendar, blog and email, was provided. They also pointed out how to access educational content.

Next, the way of using the tools of the submission folder and how to link them together was explained to facilitate students' assessment and the registration of grades. The workshop focused on the e-learning environment and building e-content. It concentrated on the way of designated e-content to students. It also explained how to upload courses, and distribute the curriculum.

This meeting falls within the introductory program prepared by the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education, and was supervised by his Eminence the Dean of E-Learning and Distance Education, Dr. Khalid Al-Mutiri.
