Under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Khalid Al-Mutairi, Dean of E-Learning Education, on Thursday, 8 November, 2018 (corresponding to 30 Safar, 1440 A.H.) a training course on instructional design wizard and accelerator was organized. It was presented by Dr. Al-Asaad Al-Samirani and Eng. Muhammad Nabil. It was held in the training hall at the deanship of E-Learning Education, Al-Abdiyyah Campus.

'Instructional design' is the practice of designing rich educational curricula that will effectively support the learners in the achievement of their goals. It is a proven process for designing effective educational curricula that involves defining the learning objectives based on the current status of learners and their needs, as well as selecting learning activities to adequately assist in learner development to enable them to fulfill their objectives, in addition to using accurate standards to evaluate the performance of both the teachers and learners.

After introducing the importance of the design tool, the needs of the trainees were addressed to enable them to implement the e-learning system. The curriculum was divided into several modules, each with defined learning goals and objectives.

The two trainers also mentioned that during the process of creating effective learning experiences, the instructional design wizard guides the user through the following steps:

1. Defining learning goals
2. Selecting learning activities
3. Organizing the grade book

During the practical portion of the course, the participants were able to finish all stages of designing the basic structure of an electronic curriculum and to reach the curriculum outline.

At the end of the course, all participants expressed their thanks to His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, UQU President; Dr. Abdul-Aziz bin Rashad Surujy, Vice-President for Educational Affairs; and His Excellency the Dean of E-Learning and Distance Education, Dr. Khalid Al-Mutairi, for the rich and intensive training programs that are being offered. They also commended the care that the UQU provides to its students and academic staff.
