The Deanship of e-Learning and Distance Education organized a course on “Static Infographic Design” on Thursday, September 4, 2018, corresponding to Muharram 24, 1440 AH, in the training hall at the Deanship’s headquarters in the Abdiyah-based university town. The course was given by Engineer Ashraf Ibraheem and Engineer Muhammad Al-Rouaini.
This course is a part of a training program that was prepared under the supervision of His Excellency Dr. Khaled Al-Motairi, Dean of e-Learning and Distance Education. The program encompasses many different subjects concerned with the utilization of the tools and systems of e-learning platforms. This is in addition to courses that involve training on the open educational resources platform SHMS, and training on using digital applications and technology in the educational process.
The training course included two segments. The first one dealt with theoretical areas; the concept of infographics and the practices in which they are used were explained. In general, the term “inforgraphic” refers to any illustration or design containing information or statistics on a specific topic in a way that makes such information easy to understand for readers. That is, any representation of information in the form of illustrations can be classified as an inforgraphic. An inforgraphic can also be defined as a conversion of a certain amount of complex textual information and data into a mixture of photos, illustrations, and texts that allow the reader to comprehend the main idea of the subject more easily and quickly.
After the theoretical presentation, both trainers undertook the presentation of the segment devoted to practical areas. They presented the basic skills that allow faculty members to use the piktochart.com website, and explained all the tools available on this website by creating a new design or modifying an existing design. They also talked about the various programs and websites that can be helpful in designing infographics.
