In collaboration with the National Center for e-Learning and Distance Learning (NCeL), and under the direct supervision of Dr. Khaled Al-Mutairy, Dean of E-Learning, the training course on SHMS Platform continued for two days. The course was presented by Mr. Ahmad Mubarak and Mr. Abdurrahman Al-Balady from NCeL.
The course was held at the El-Learning Laboratory, King Abdullah Library in the Abediyah-based University City. It was attended by fifteen UQU staff members, led by Dr. Yasser Al-Hazemy, Vice-Dean for Academic Development and Community Service. It was also transmitted via TV to fifteen female staff members, led by Dr. Hanaa Al-Yamany, Vice Dean of E-Learning, at Al-Zaher-based University City. It is worth mentioning that the course was held on Tuesday-Wednesday, 27-28th Jumada I 1439H (13-14th February 2018).
It is evident that SHMS Platform offers many tools to be used by staff members, who can create new OER content to meet the unique needs of students, find new content and remix to create their own. Moreover, the Open Author tool can be used to create and collaborate on new resources. In other words, text, images, sounds, videos, or supplemental materials can be combined into resources that can be shared and remixed with colleagues and educators around the world. This robust tool will let users export their resources in multiple formats including ePub and Scorm, and to integrate resources directly into their LMS.
The training package included the definition of OER, the method to access SHMS and the correct data characterization way. In addition, the course comprised the method to search in educational resources, detailed definition of Creative Commons (CC) licenses, as well as determination of each resource’s property rights according to CC license. The course also included the method to upload and publish an educational resource, create and publish a resource using SHMS, and choose and apply the appropriate license to publish the resource.
At the end of the course, Dr. Khaled Al-Mutairy extended deep thanks and gratitude to Dr. Bakry bin Maatouq Assas, UQU President, for his keenness that UQU should join the distinctive project of SHMS Platform. He also thanked and hailed Dr. Abdulaziz bin Rashad Soroujy, UQU Vice-President for Educational Affairs, for his constant support for all the Deanship’s initiatives.
