In light of community partnership and in order to highlight the role of the University in serving and educating the community, the College of Community Service and Continuing Education (Girls Section) activated the World Breast Cancer Day. The event which was entitled, “A Beginning of Hope for an End of Pain,” aimed at raising awareness of the need for early detection of breast cancer for a healthy and culturally conscious society. It is worth mentioning that the event was held in the morning of Thursday, 20th Safar 1439H. It also was sponsored by Prof. Dr. Khaled bin Yusuf Barqawy, Dean of the College, and supervised by Dr. Zainab bint Muhammad Al-Khidr Al-Qadhi, the Vice-Dean. In addition, the event was organized in cooperation with Zahra Breast Cancer Association, King Abdulaziz Hospital in Al-Zaher, and the Department of Clinical Nutrition at the College of Medicine.
Within this framework, the program was activated via a training day. A lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Malak Hassan Ulwy, Doctor, and Mashae’l Faisal Yamany, Ray Technician, from King Abdulaziz Hospital. The lecture was about breast cancer, risk factors, as well as diagnosis and prevention methods. Moreover, the participants were taught the right way to self-check the breast. In addition, Hadeel Hassan Madoura, Student at the College of Medicine, gave a concrete presentation of the foods to be taken, and those that should be avoided to prevent breast cancer.
At the end of the program, Dr. Maha bint Hassan Al-Qahmany, gave a thankful speech to and on behalf of Dr. Zainab Al-Qadhi. She also thanked the team which organized the program and hailed its activation method.
