In coordination with the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture and the presence of Dr. Yasser Al Hazemi, the Vice Dean of the E-learning and Distance Learning for Academic Development and Community Services, a training session was organized on using e-learning and introducing its advantages on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, equivalent to Safar 25, 1439H. The session was presented by Dr. Usama Al-Jarrari and Eng. Ahmed Yousri and attended by a special group of teaching staff members from the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture.

At the beginning of the training session, a brief presentation was given about the deanship training programs, including visiting different institutes and colleges during the current academic year to give training courses on using learning management system and how to make use of its tools. During the session, three topics were discussed: the importance of e-learning and the available infrastructure at Umm Al-Qura University; how to manage curricula; and learning environment and electronic content making.

After giving an introduction on the importance of the e-learning, the "Learning" portal was introduced, which is provided by UQU for the students and teaching staff, in addition to an explanation for different available tools and the contents of the system's main page, such as news, settings, calendar, blog and email. A description was also given for how to reach the educational content and to use the submission folder, discussions and grades. Regarding the curricula management, a detailed explanation was given for how to publish news on the gate; open discussions with the students; and put the students' assignments in the submission folder. As for the e-learning environment and making electronic content, the session focused on how to make the electronic content available for the students and to offer simplified explanation for different tools that help the teacher to give lectures and make it possible for the student to interact with the content.

The event comes a part of a training program prepared by the Deanship of the E-learning and Distance Learning under the supervision of Dr. Khalid Al-Mutairi, the Dean of the Deanship; Dr. Sultan Al-Mutairi, the Vice Dean of the Deanship; and  Dr. Yasser Al Hazemi, the Vice Dean of the E-learning and Distance Learning for Academic Development and Community Services.
