Within the framework of the "Certified Trainer" Program, the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education organized a workshop titled, "Certified Trainer Preparation" on Thursday, 2nd November 2017 (13th Safar 1439H). The session was presented by Eng. Ahmad Al-Husainy at the E-Learning Laboratory, King Abdullah Library in Abediyah.
The session aimed to provide hands-on training on the acquisition of training mechanisms. It targeted Male-Students-Section staff member candidates in this program.
In the same context, this session is the culmination of the first edition of the Certified Trainer Program, launched since last academic year. The Program aimed to prepare the staff members nominated by the deans to serve as certified trainers at the Deanship of E-Learning and distance Education.
The following basic themes were included in the session:
• Introduction to Training.
• Determination of Training Requirement.
• Designing Training Programs.
• Preparation of Training Packages.
• Training Methods.
• Practical Project.
During the session, the trainer pointed out that the training process aimed to assess the need of the trainee of the provided scientific material. He added that it included the design of training programs in two significant parts: analysis and assembly. The first part aimed to analyze the functional domain into multiple tasks, tasks into capacities, then capacities into knowledge and skills. The second part aimed to assemble the required skills and knowledge in training subjects, compile them in a time schedule, and then write the program manual from which the formation of the training package began.
The trainer also dealt with the preparation of the training package which included a detailed statement of the training procedures to be used by one or more trainers in a manner that ensured the achievement of the objectives of the training program. He added that the package also included an executive plan for the actual training process by preparing the scientific material, activities and necessary procedural steps for implementation on the basis of training objectives.
Within the same framework, Eng. Ahmad Al-Husainy noted that among the most significant characteristics of a good trainer were the wide and specialized knowledge with intellectual humility, as well as the good differentiation between adult training and junior education. He added that the trainer should make sure that the highest benefit was achieved in the training program. He also explained that the trainer should be an eloquent, effective and persuasive speaker capable of communicating with the trainees according to their different styles; he/she should possess a high level of dialogue and a balance between skills and knowledge.
During the event, the session attracted the attention of the attendees. This was evident in the second part of the training session, as they participated in the activities that the trainer of the Deanship was keen to manage perfectly.
On the other hand, Dr. Khaled Al-Mutairy, Dean of E-Learning, confirmed that by completing such session, the Deanship would finish the first version of the Certified Trainer Program. This would be due to the joint efforts of all participants, such as the Training Department, trainers and candidates. Moreover, he extended thanks to Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), for his full support for UQU training programs. He also thanked Dr. Abdulaziz bin Rashad Sorouji, UQU Vice-President for Educational Affairs, for his follow-up of all the Deanship’s programs from their very beginning, especially the Certified Trainer Program.
