II. General Diploma of Social Service in the Medical Field Program

This program is jointly offered by the College of Community Service and Continuing Education and the College of Social Sciences (Department of Social Service).

This program was launched to satisfy the genuine need of social specialists in medical institutions to increase their scientific knowledge about this profession and acquire the necessary skills for practicing it, especially that they often feel somewhat unable to handle professional situations. Usually, this happens as a result of a theoretical deficiency that limits this practice, a lack of required skills for that, or due to the appearance of new diseases that require special treatment.

General objectives of the program:

In light of the general objectives defined in the standard postgraduate studies regulations for Saudi universities, the general diploma of social service in the medical field program aims at achieving the following objectives:

  • Providing graduates of community service departments‎ and other relevant departments, who hold bachelor's degrees and satisfy the program's admission requirements, with the opportunity to continue their qualification and improvement of their professional skills to meet the scientific and practical needs of the community, especially those related to the medical field
  • Producing specialized human resources who are capable of studying and handling the social problems and issues in the Saudi community through academic development and fostering innovation in dealing with such problems and issues that are related to the medical field.
  • Qualifying graduates to participate in preparing serious field studies about dealing with the urgent social problems in the Saudi community in ways that would help planners devise suitable plans to deal with them
  • Providing students with modern models and methods of the professional practice of social service in the medical field and working towards adapting these models to suit the culture of the Saudi community
  • Providing the various medical institutions with scientific competent human resources who could help in improving the practice of social service in this field.

Program Admission conditions:

In addition to the admission requirements that are stated in the standard postgraduate studies regulations, its rules and organizational and executive procedures, admission to the general diploma of social service in the medical field program requires the following:

  • 1. The student must hold a university degree from a social or psychological department a Saudi university or any accredited university
  • 2. The student must pass the examinations required by the department
  • 3. The student must not be enrolled in postgraduate studies at any other university

  • The period of study to obtain the high diploma of social services in the medical field is one academic year of two semesters, pursuant to article (32) of the standard postgraduate studies regulations. Each semester comprises 15 credits (i.e. 30 credits for the whole program).
  • Examinations are required for obtaining the high diploma of social service and their results are regulated by the postgraduate studies regulations

  • College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies
  • College of Da`wa and Usul-ud-Din
  • College of Arabic Language
  • College of Applied Sciences
  • College of Social Sciences
  • Makkah Community College

The other colleges of the university will be included among the participating colleges upon their acceptance to participate.

Fees:

The program aims at contributing to community service rather than making financial profits. Hence, assessment of the fees was based on the utilization of the university's physical and administrative resources such as facilities, laboratories, operation, maintenance, and administration. Also taken into account was the utilization of participating faculty members and compensating them in accordance with article 48 of the statute regulating affairs of university Saudi staff (faculty members and equivalent staff members) issued by the Higher Education Board on 04/06/1417 AH.

On that basis, the fees are as follows:

  • 18,000 (eighty thousand Saudi Riyals) for theoretical colleges per academic year (two semesters)
  • 22,000 (twenty-two thousand Saudi riyals) for applied sciences colleges per academic year (two semesters)
  • 15,000 (fifteen thousand Saudi Riyals) for the research development year ‎ (two semesters)

Program admission and study conditions:

The applicable university's postgraduate studies regulations are the reference that regulates the program, while taking the following into consideration:

  • 1- The program accepts Saudi and non-Saudi applicants
  • 2- Full time dedication is not required for obtaining doctorate degrees except in some scientific specializations
  • 3- Full time dedication is not required for studying the supplementary subjects. Students who study these subjects‎ enjoy the same rights as the program enrollees
